The volatile oil content and composition of the aerial parts of Ajuga orientalis L. (Lamiaceae) grown in northern parts of Iran have been analyzed by GC/MS. Thirty compounds were identified, representing 97.9% of the total oil. The main compounds were germacrene-D (24.2%), beta-cubebene (18.3%), beta-caryophyllene (16.9%) and alpha-cubebene (5.3%).
Ocimum basilicum L. belongs to the family Lamiaceae is an herb that is extensively cultivated in some countries. Arial parts, especially leaves of sweet basil are widely used to enhance the flavour of foods such as salads, pasta, tomato products, vegetables, pizza, meat, soups, marine foods, confectioneries and other products (Ghasemi Pirbalouti, 2014). Traditionally basil has Journal of Herbal...
Satureja wiedemanniana (Lallem.) Velen (Lamiaceae) is an endemic species of Turkey. Aerial parts of the plant collected from eleven different localities in Turkey were subjected to hydrodistillation to yield essential oils which were analysed by a GC/MS system. Carvacrol, thymol, p-cymene and gamma-terpinene were found as the main constituents. Antibacterial evaluation of the oils was also carr...
Betulinic, ursolic and oleanolic acids isolated from the aerial parts of Eriope blanchetii (Lamiaceae) were subjected to different esterification reactions, yielding 12 C-3 position ester derivatives. All compounds were identified using spectroscopic techniques, such as IR, 1H-NMR and MS. The derivatives were further investigated for their antioxidant level, Artemia salina lethality and antimic...
Chemical composition of the volatile oils of three Lamiaceae species growing wild in North of Iran 3
Background & Aim: The Lamiaceae or Labiatae (commonly referred to as the mint or deadnettle family) are an exceedingly large and widespread of flowering plants (Angiospermae). Most member of Lamiaceae plants are used in Iranian folk medicine as stimulant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, stomachic, expectorant, carminative, anti-diarrheic and anti-bacterial. The aim of the present work was to obtain a ...
The xeromorphic adaptation of epidermal cells of Lamiaceae plant leaves, the conse quence of their adaptation to an arid habitat, was investigated. These xerophytic species inhibit transpiration in different ways, depending on the number, the form and the position of trichomes, whether they are dead hairs or live glandular structures. The Salvia genus is characterized on one hand by multicellu...

Four essential oils [Sweet Basil (Ocimum basilicum L, Fam: Lamiaceae), Geranium, (Pelargonium graveolens, Geraniaceae), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus, Poaceae) and Peppermint (Mentha piperita L. Lamiaceae)] were selected to be converted into oil nanoemulsions (EONE). The four analyzed in their natural (EO) nano form (EONE) using GC-MS, the results showed a significant increase percentage of m...
