Bioconversion of aglycone-formed isoflavones from glycoside-formed isoflavones by commercial lactic acid bacteria in fermented soybean paste was evaluated. Enterococcus faecium KCTC 13410 showed the most resistant capacity and Lactobacillus acidophilus KCTC 3925 had a sensitive susceptibility at a high NaCl concentration (13.2%) in fermented soybean paste. Among the 5 strains tested, Lac. acido...

Recognized to confer health benefits to consumers, probiotics such as Lactobacillus acidophilus are commonly incorporated into fermented dairy products worldwide; among which yogurt is a popular delivery vehicle. To materialize most of the putative health benefits associated with probiotics, an adequate amount of viable cells must be delivered at the time of consumption. However, the loss in th...

Objective(s): The study is aimed to elucidate the impact of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antifibrosis properties of Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) on liver and colon in ethephon treated rats through measuring Pro- inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress index, lysosomal cathepsin-D enzyme activity and fibrosis markers.Materials and ...

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of different amounts of barley bran (0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, and 1.2%) on the viability of Lactobacillus acidophilus and the physicochemical and sensory properties of low-fat yogurt during storage period (28 days). Results showed that L. acidophilus number and viscosity in samples containing barley bran was significantly higher than the control group (p...

Faecal samples of 2 pigs, kept on a constant diet, were analysed for Lactobacillus acidophilus and other lactic acid bacteria at 1 week intervals over a period of 3 months. Enumeration of L. acidophilus by selective methods was verified by phenotypic identification of representative isolates. The total lactic acid bacteria (LAB) population ranged between 10(8) and 10(10) colony-forming units pe...

The stimulation by yeast extract of acid production in milk by various lactobacilli was studied. It was found that supplementing milk with purine and pyrimidine bases and amino acids allowed nearly maximal acid production by Lactobacillus bulgaricus strain 7994, L. acidophilus 4796, 4356, and 4357, and L. leichmannii 326 and 327. Further supplementation with deoxyribotides allowed maximal acid ...

BACKGROUND/AIM Thirty male BALB/c mice were equally divided into three groups: control, L. acidophilus, and B. bifidum for the assessment of the probiotics' stability in the gut microflora. MATERIALS AND METHODS First, the gut microflora of the mice was checked every 3 days (days 3, 6, 9, and 12) without probiotic consumption, and then the mice were daily given orally 1.5 g of probiotics in 3...

AIMS This work was undertaken to study the feasibility and the characteristics of a fermented product made of goat milk, using a mixed starter culture of Bifidobacterium animalis and Lactobacillus acidophilus under controlled conditions, and to determine their survival in the fermented milk during refrigerated storage. METHODS AND RESULTS Goat milk was inoculated with Lact. acidophilus and Bi...

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a natural inhabitant of mammalian gastrointestinal systems and is used in dairy and pharmaceutical products. Five draft genome sequences, covering 1,995,790 nucleotides (nt) on average, are divided into 19 to 34 scaffolds covering 1,995 to 2,053 genes. The draft genome sequences were compared to the sequence of the L. acidophilus NCFM dairy strain.

We present the 1,991,830-bp complete genome sequence of Lactobacillus acidophilus strain La-14 (SD-5212). Comparative genomic analysis revealed 99.98% similarity overall to the L. acidophilus NCFM genome. Globally, 111 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (95 SNPs, 16 indels) were observed throughout the genome. Also, a 416-bp deletion in the LA14_1146 sugar ABC transporter was identified.
