Injection of lyophilized Candida albicans or C. parapsilosis cells induced amyloidosis in outbred CFW mice. The disease process was irreversible, and a significant number of animals died of systemic amyloidosis within 400 days after the last treatment. The techniques described may represent a model system for the study of systemic amyloidosis.

Effects of spray washing carcasses with Lauric Acid (LA)-Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) on bacteria recovered from Whole-Carcass Rinsates (WCR) were examined. Carcass skin was inoculated with antibiotic resistant strains of Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimirum and Campylobacter coli. The first trial examined effects of washing carcasses with water, 0.25% LA-0.125% KOH, 0.50% LA-0.25% KOH, 1.00% L...

Hydroxyapatite (HA) has polarization capability and is able to accumulate electrical storage in bone. Experiments were conducted to measure the polarization capability of rabbit femurs. After preparing and polarizing bone samples using 2% KOH treatment (denoted 2% koh), 2% KOH and baking (2% koh+bake) and decalcification (decalcification) as well as untreated bone (untreated), stored charges we...
