AbstractRenal medullary carcinoma (RMC) is an uncommon aggressive neoplasm of the kidney. RMC is biologically aggressive with a very poor prognosis, and metastasis is seen in up to 95% of the patients at diagnosis or shortly thereafter. The common sites of metastasis are respectively lymph nodes, lungs, livers, and adrenal glands in order of frequency. The presence of poorly differentiated eosi...
Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor (MEST) of the kidney belongs to broad spectrum renal neoplasms, distinguished by their varying composition components. The histopathological display biphasic growth pattern mesenchymal elements, often with estrogen progesterone receptor positivity, clinches diagnosis. It is typically benign, low recurrence rates excellent prognosis after surgical resection. ME...
AIMS AND BACKGROUND The prognosis of patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma (CRC) has improved substantially over the last two decades. Longer patient survival comes at a price of more complications, including second primary neoplasms and metastases at unusual sites. METHOD Retrospective chart review. RESULTS We present 4 patients with metastatic CRC who developed kidney tumors. In 2...
Angiomyolipomas are benign neoplasms of the kidney which can clinically mimic renal malignancy. The imaging features are quite characteristic, and diagnosis can be clinched solely based on radiological investigations. Although mostly asymptomatic, they can be a cause of significant morbidity due to size and hemorrhage. We report a case of giant angiomyolipoma with a dilated vessel susceptible t...
Neoplasms are rare in pregnant women, however they are always a challenging diagnostic and curative problem. We present a case of a benign kidney tumor (angiomyolipoma) imitating nephroblastoma on magnetic resonance diagnosed in pregnancy. Cesarean section was performed in 29. gestotic week followed immediately by right radical nephrectomy.
Mixed epithelial and stromal tumors (MEST) of the kidney are uncommon neoplasms that were added to the World Health Organization's renal tumor classification in 2004. These entities are biphasic and contain both epithelial and mesenchymal components. MEST most commonly occur in women. Presented are two cases of MEST incidentally discovered at autopsy.
Perinephric abscesses are life-threatening conditions, which are rarely associated with neoplasms of the kidney or upper tract collecting system. We report, to our knowledge, the first case of squamous carcinoma of the upper tract presenting as a perinephric abscess, diagnosed after radical nephrectomy.
