We present a detailed doping dependent study of the Josephson vortex state in La2−xSrxCuO4 using infrared spectroscopy. A magnetic field as high as 17 tesla, applied along the CuO2 planes, is found to suppress the Josephson plasmon in all measured samples. We find the strongest suppression in samples with dopings close to x=1/8 and attribute this effect to the spontaneous formation of in-plane ...

This paper begins with a brief discussion of the physical principles and history of Josephson effect voltage standards. The main body of the paper deals with the practical details of the array design, cryoprobe construction, bias source requirements, adjustment of the system for optimum performance, calibration algorithms, and an assessment of error sources for the NIST-developed Josephson arra...

We study the Josephson effect through a one-dimensional system of interacting electrons, connected to two superconductors by tunnel junctions. The interactions are treated in the framework of the one-channel Luttinger model. At zero temperature, the Josephson critical current is found to decay algebraically with increasing distance between the junctions. The exponent is proportional to the stre...

A single-Cooper-pair transistor (SCPT) is coupled capacitively to a voltage biased Josephson junction, used as a high-frequency generator. Thanks to the high energy of photons generated by the Josephson junction, transitions between energy levels, not limited to the first two levels, were induced and the effect of this irradiation on the dc Josephson current of the SCPT was measured. The phase ...

Supercurrent flow between two superconductors with different order parameters, a phenomenon known as the Josephson effect, can be achieved by inserting a non-superconducting material between two superconductors to decouple their wavefunctions. These Josephson junctions have been employed in fields ranging from digital to quantum electronics, yet their functionality is limited by the interface q...

We predict a new class of excitations propagating along a Josephson vortex in two-dimensional Josephson junctions. These excitations are associated with the distortion of a Josephson vortex line and have an analogy with shear waves in solid mechanics. Their shapes can have an arbitrary profile, which is retained when propagating. We derive a universal analytical expression for the energy of arb...

We propose a new method to create an asymmetric two-dimensional magnetic lattice which exhibits magnetic band gap structure similar to semiconductor devices. The quantum device is assumed to host bound states of collective excitations formed in a magnetically trapped quantum degenerate gas of ultracold atoms such as a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) or a degenerate Fermi gas. A theoretical frame...

The quantum Hall state at total filling factor ν(T)=1 in bilayer systems realizes an exciton condensate and exhibits a zero-bias tunneling anomaly, similar to the Josephson effect in the presence of fluctuations. In contrast to conventional Josephson junctions, no Fraunhofer diffraction pattern has been observed, due to disorder induced topological defects, so-called merons. We consider interla...

We present a theory of transport through interacting quantum dots coupled to normal and superconducting leads in the limit of weak tunnel coupling. A Josephson current between two superconducting leads, carried by first-order tunnel processes, can be established by non-equilibrium proximity effect. Both Andreev and Josephson current is suppressed for bias voltages below a threshold set by the C...
