Silicon oxynitride-based arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) spectrometers were designed for on-chip spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems and Raman spectroscopy of the skin. Requirements are identified for an open-system approach to integrated IP-over-optical networks.
