The present study aimed to describe the infective larval stage of Physaloptera sp. parasitizing Leptodactylus macrosternum and microscopic lesions these larvae in stomach wall. Forty-five specimens L. were collected during rainy season May 2018, municipality Petrolina, sub-middle São Francisco region, state Pernambuco, Brazil. Twenty-seven (L3) attached mucosa 11 (24.4%) macrosternum. No other ...

Nuclear receptors (NRs) encompass a superfamily of cytoplasmic/nuclear localized receptors that on ligand binding (or by phosphorylation) directly regulate the transcription of target genes. NRs are involved in many developmental processes, including moulting in insects and dauer larva formation in Caenorhabditis elegans. Here we report the isolation of two genes related to NRs from the filaria...

A cDNA library constructed from 3 day post-infective L3 of the filarial nematode Brugia pahangi was screened by differential hybridization with cDNA probes prepared from different life-cycle stages. Five cDNA clones hybridizing selectively to the mosquito-derived L3 probe were isolated and characterized. Northern blot analysis of 4 of the clones confirmed that each was most highly expressed in ...

A stock of Trichostrongylus colubriformis infective larvae (L3) was stored for up to 15 weeks at 24 degrees C. At three weeks intervals, samples of L3 were taken to assess exsheathment rate and enzyme activity Leucine Amino Peptidase (LAP) and Alkaline Phosphatase (AP). From 0 to 9 weeks of storage, a decrease in enzyme activity was observed correlated with a decrease in exsheathment rate (perc...

Vaccination with DNA vaccines derived from adult H. contortus induces significant level of protection against homologous infection in goat. To date however, mechanism of protection is not well understood, especially in goat. In this study, HC58 DNA vaccinated goats were artificially infected with 5, 000 dose of infective H. contortus L3 (third larval stage), and cellular immune responses and ab...

Infective larvae (L3) of two different batches of anthelmintic-susceptible Haemonchus contortus, cryopreserved for 15,6 and 15,7 years in liquid nitrogen appeared dead when examined 10-20 min after thawing. However, having become motile later in the day, their viability was tested the next day in two separate groups of sheep. The mean development of 41,8% and 66,3% of the H. contortus compared ...

A third-stage (infective) larva of Dracunculus medinensis, the causative agent of Guinea worm disease, was recovered from a wild-caught Phrynobatrachus francisci frog in Chad. Although green frogs (Lithobates clamitans) have been experimentally infected with D. medinensis worms, our findings prove that frogs can serve as natural paratenic hosts.

Hookworm infections (Necator americanus, Ancylostoma duodenale) are common in rural areas of tropical and subtropical countries. Human get infection from direct percutaneous invasion infective larva contaminated soil. The majority infected patients remain asymptomatic. However, iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) due to chronic blood loss is the major complication. Here we presented a case with its r...

Dirofilaria immitis is an important heart worm in dogs. An immunodiagnostic test is frequently applied to use an alternative antigen from other parasites. A crude antigen from infective third stage larva (L3) of D. immitis was employed in detecting the antibody to Bancroftian filariasis in humans by indirect ELISA. It was shown that 25 cases of Bancroftian filariasis (76%) at a cut-off value of...
