Indigo is one of the most emblematic molecules for the color blue, and is believed in many cultures to be charged with unique talismanic properties. The vivid color and high stability of this dye have led to an almost mythical status, from the “tecklet” of the Hebrews (believed to be a mixture with Tyrian Purple), through the blue of Napoleon Bonaparte(s army uniforms, to its current applicatio...

Indigo is one of the most important dyes in the textile industry. The control of the indigo concentration in dyeing liquors and effluents is an important tool to ensure the reproducibility of the dyed fabrics and also to establish the efficiency of the wastewater treatment. In this work, three analytical methods were studied and validated with the aim to select a reliable, fast and automated me...

Celeribacter sp. strain TSPH2, a novel producer of indigo, was isolated from oil-contaminated sediment. We present here its genome sequence consisting of one circular chromosome (4 Mb) and one plasmid (0.15 Mb), with an overall G+C content of 60.9%. This strain contains oxygenase genes involved in indigo synthesis, such as flavin-containing monooxygenase.

Indigo carmine (sodium indigotindisulfonate) is a safe, biologically inactive blue dye routinely administered intravascularly during urologic and gynecologic procedures to localize the ureteral orifices and to identify severed ureters and fistulous communications. We report a case of hypotension, cardiac arrest, and cerebral ischemia after the administration of indigo carmine in a patient under...

Indigo is a universal portable open-source library which allows developers and chemists to solve various cheminformatics tasks. The library has grown out from a collection of more specific tools we have developed during the past years. Proper wrappers for popular programming languages are provided, as well as some command-line and GUI tools useful for scientists. All software is available under...

Indigo carmine is a blue dye that is widely applied to localise ureteral orifices. It is generally believed to be a safe, biologically inert substance, and hypotensive reactions are extremely rare. However, we experienced three cases of indigo carmine-induced hypotension within a period of two weeks.

Textile dyes are some of the most refractory organic compounds in the environment due to their complex and various structure. An integrated resin adsorption/Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) plasma regeneration was proposed to treat the indigo carmine solution. It is the first time to report ectopic regeneration of the saturated resins by non-thermal Dielectric Barrier Discharge. The adsorptio...

ong before the advent of systematic L physical sciences and the growth of the chemical industry, as long as 5000 years ago in India, dyeing methods were being used for the application of the water insoluble pigment, indigo, to natural fibers. In the early nineteenth century, between the first cotton gin and the Civil War, the value of natural indigo produced in South Carolina exceeded that of r...

The effect of indigo dye effluent on the freshwater microalga Scenedesmus quadricauda ABU12 was investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. The microalga was exposed to different concentrations of the effluent obtained by diluting the dye effluent from 100 to 175 times in bold basal medium (BBM). The growth rate of the microalga decreased as indigo dye effluent concentration increased ...

isatin, n-methyl isatin and n-benzylisatin were smoothly monobrominated in the 5-position by treatment with pyridinium bromochromate (pbc) in acetic acid medium. in the similar conditions indigo underwent bromination and oxidation to give 5-bromoisatin in high yield.
