We find a necessary and sufficient condition for a compact 7-manifold to admit a G̃2-structure. As a result we find a sufficient condition for an open 7-manifold to admit a closed 3-form of G̃2-type.

Data from the Oxford Record Linkage Study have been used to describe rates of accident repetition for children aged under 5 years. As reflected by hospital admissions, accident rates for children who have already had one accident were approximately twice those of children of the same age and sex who had previously been accident free.

In the present paper, we construct a nongeometric pro-p Galois section of a proper hyperbolic curve over a number field, as well as over a p-adic local field. This yields a negative answer to the pro-p Section Conjecture. We also observe that there exists a proper hyperbolic curve over a number field which admits infinitely many conjugacy classes of pro-p Galois sections.

We construct three different families of commuting pairs of subnormal operators, jointly hyponormal but not admitting commuting normal extensions. Each such family can be used to answer in the negative a 1988 conjecture of R. Curto, P. Muhly and J. Xia. We also obtain a sufficient condition under which joint hyponormality does imply joint subnormality.
