This study was conducted to find out the prevalence, viral load and co-infection of HBV and HCV infection among patients seeking to hospital care in Mashhad, Iran. A total of 402 samples (349 samples for HBV and 53 for HCV) were received and were screened for hepatitis B and C during 2004 to 2014. Viral loads of HBV DNA and HCV RNA were quantified by real-time PCR. Among 349 collected samples, ...

High viral and/or antigen load may be an important cause of the T cell hyporesponsiveness to hepatitis B virus (HBV) antigens that is often observed in patients with chronic HBV infection. Reduction of viral and antigen load by lamivudine treatment represents an ideal model for investigating this hypothesis. HLA class II restricted T cell responses and serum levels of HBV-DNA, HBsAg, and HBeAg ...

BACKGROUND Sequential addition of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is often needed for patients coinfected with HIV and hepatitis B virus (HBV) who develop HBV resistance to lamivudine after combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) containing only lamivudine for HBV. We aimed to assess the virological response of HBV to add-on TDF in patients coinfected with lamivudine-resistant HBV. METH...

OBJECTIVE The reactivation of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a well-known event in hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg)-positive patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy. The objective of this study was to assess the antiviral practice and course of HBV infection in inflammatory arthritis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Nineteen rheumatology centers participated in this retrospective study. Hb...

BACKGROUND HBV-HIV co-infection is associated with an increased liver-related morbidity and mortality. However, little is known about the natural history of chronic hepatitis B in HIV-infected individuals under highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) receiving at least one of the two drugs that also affect HBV (TDF and LAM). Information about HBeAg status and HBV viremia in HIV/HBV co-infe...

Introduction Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an established cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is associated with poor prognosis. High HBV deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) load has been identified in HCC and hepatitis B surface antigen-positive patients. Materials and methods This study was done in the Department of Hepatology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bang...

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy is an important issue in cancer patients. An elevated HBV viral load usually precedes hepatitis flare, and hepatic decompensation and eventual death is not infrequent once viral reactivation is initiated. Reverse seroconversion from hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-negative to HBsAg-positive would also occur in hepatitis ...

A first case of clinical tenofovir (TDF) HBV resistance in an HIV/HBV coinfected patient who developed an acute flare of hepatitis B is reported. The clinical course was accompanied by signs of acute liver failure after being on successful HBV treatment with tenofovir and persistently undetectable HBV-DNA viral load for over five years.

results 12 (14.8%) patients had positive results for both hdv rna and anti-hdv. the mean alt level was higher in hdv positive patients (75.9 u/ml) than hbv-mono-infected individuals; however, the mean hbv viral load was lower in coinfected patients than hbv-mono-infected patients. phylogenetically, genotype i was the only detected genotype, and the most closely related isolates were of turkish,...

BACKGROUND Mathematical models have shown to be extremely helpful in understanding the dynamics of different virus diseases, including hepatitis B. Hepatitis D virus (HDV) is a satellite virus of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). In the liver, production of new HDV virions depends on the presence of HBV. There are two ways in which HDV can occur in an individual: co-infection and super-infection. Co...
