Foaming occurs in many distillation and absorption processes. The drainage of liquid foams involves the interplay of gravity, surface tension, and viscous forces. In this paper, we use a semi analytic method, the Adomian decomposition method, and an analytic method, the tanh method to handle the foam drainage equation. The powerful tanh method gives the solution in a closed form. However, Adomi...

This investigation presents the effect of various parameters on foam stability and its rheological properties. The underlying idea of this experiment is generating of drilling foam with uniform bubbles. The main problem of foam using is controlling its stability during field application. The most important parameters which cause Instability in foam are gravity drainage, gas diffusion and bubble...

Production of highly viscous tar sand bitumen using Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) with a pair of horizontal wells has advantages over conventional steam flooding. This paper explores the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) as an alternative to the traditional SAGD simulation approach. Feed forward, multi-layered neural network meta-models are trained through the Back-...

Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) is a technique that has been developed to efficiently extract bitumen from deep reservoirs. We propose using electrical impedance tomography (EIT) for real-time monitoring of SAGD wells to maintain optimal operating conditions. Several electrode configurations along the pipelines and measurement strategies are presented and compared.

In this study, the effects of diameter and location of drain pipe in uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient in the foundation of gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, a numerical model of gravity dam foundation is simulated using finite elements method. The results indicate that drain pipe under the gravity dam reduces the uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient. Location of the d...

It has been proved that ultrasonic energy can considerably increase the amount of oil recovery in an immiscible displacement process. Although many studies have been performed on investigating the roles of ultrasonic waves, based on the best of our knowledge, little attention has been paid to evaluate wave attenuation parameter, which is an important parameter in the determination of the energy...

We compare extensive experimental results for the gravity-driven steady drainage of oil-in-water emulsions with two theoretical predictions, both based on the assumption of Poiseuille flow. The first is from standard foam drainage theory, applicable at low aqueous volume fractions, for which a correction is derived to account for the effects of the confinement of the emulsion. The second arises...

A thorough understanding of the effects of lean zones and the improvement of steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operations with such heterogeneities is critically important for reducing the disadvantages of lean zones. The numerical model shows: (1) SAGD is most influenced by the single-layer lean zone with the above-injector (AI) location; with the decrease of interval distance and increas...
