With respect to the paper published recently in Clinical Science by Campos et al. [1] on blood levels of glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase being more strongly associated with good outcome in acute ischaemic stroke than glutamate pyruvate transaminase levels, we would like to raise a cautionary note. It has been well established that abnormally high concentrations of l-glutamate (glutamate) in...
The hepatoprotective activity of an ethanolic extract of Commiphora opobalsamum ("Balessan") was investigated in rats by inducing hepatotoxicity with carbon tetrachloride:liquid paraffin (1:1). This extract has been shown to possess significant protective effect by lowering serum transaminase levels (serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase), alkaline ...
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have received growing attention for several biomedical applications. Nanoparticles proposed for these applications possess the potential to interact with biological components such as the blood, cells/ tissues following their administration into the body. Hence we carried out in vivo investigations in Swiss Albino Mice to understand the interaction of ZnO nanorods...
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ethanolic extract of the whole plant of Phyllanthus rheedii wight P.rheedii as antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant effect in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Male Wistar rats were administered P.rheedii (250 mg/kg) orally for 21 days and blood glucose level was measured weekly. At the end of 21 days, the serum ...
1. The interrelationship of metabolism of pyruvate or 3-hydroxybutyrate and glutamate transamination in rat brain mitochondria was studied. 2. If brain mitochondria are incubated in the presence of equimolar concentrations of pyruvate and glutamate and the K(+) concentration is increased from 1 to 20mm, the rate of pyruvate utilization is increased 3-fold, but the rate of production of aspartat...
Crude metabolites of 21 of 60 fungal cultures isolated from some of the common cereals collected from different parts of India were found to be toxic. Of these toxin-producing fungi, 79% caused hepatic pathology of varying severity in mice. Serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase values and blood urea nitrogen were found to be high in such experimental animals.

Background: Treatment of Tuberculosis patients are given in the form a drugs combination. Some which Pyrazinamide, Isoniazid and Rifampicin can provide hepatotoxic side effects. Specific sign occurrence is increasing Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase levels. One factors that influence hepatotoxicity nutritional status. This study aims to determine relationship between status levels tubercul...
The GeMSAEC fast analyzer provides the clinical chemistry laboratory with an analytical instrument that can be used to perform large numbers of kinetic enzyme analyses. Precise enzyme-rate analyses can be done routinely, on a large scale, and at a decreased cost per test. Improved precision in analyses of enzymes should provide more reliable data because analytical variation is lessened. We hav...
