The ability of probiotic strain Lactobacillus plantarum LS/07 to modify the activity of intestinal bacterial enzymes - β-glucuronidase (β-GLUCUR), β-galactosidase (β-GAL), and β-glucosidase (β-GLU) in prevention of chronic diseases - cancer, atherosclerosis and dysbiosis was investigated. The male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 12 experimental groups: controls groups - C (contro...

Heparin was degraded with nitrous acid to yield carbohydrate-serine compounds with uranic acid located at the terminal, nonreducing position. In addition, a tetrasaccharide with the proposed structure, uronosyl-N-acetylglucosaminyluronosyl-anhydromannose was isolated from heparln by a similar procedure. On digestion with liver @-glucuronidase, between one-third and all of the uranic acid locate...

A prospective study was performed comparing bilirubin concentrations in 10 breast fed term infants of diabetic mothers (IDM) to those of 10 breast fed normal term infants. The ,-glucuronidase concentrations in serum and breast milk were assayed in the respective mothers. Significantly higher bilirubin concentrations were noted in the IDM group. Serum and breast milk P-glucuronidase concentratio...

To identify Escherichia coli through the production of β-D-glucuronidase (GUD), 622 suspect cultures were isolated from chicken carcasses and plated in Petrifilm™ EC. Of these cultures, only 44 (7.1%) failed to produce GUD. This result indicates the usefulness of GUD production for estimating E. coli populations in chicken.

1. The injection into mice of a single dose of conduritol B epoxide, a covalent inhibitor of glucosidases, quickly produced changes in tissue levels of beta-D-glucuronidase (EC 3.2.1.31). The specific activity of the enzyme decreased in liver, spleen and kidney while brain showed little change. The inhibitor did not act on glucuronidase in vitro, so the effect of the inhibitor is complex, possi...

ß-Glucuronidase is the novel enzyme known to present in the tissues of several vertebrates. It can be detected by biochemical, histochemical and immunocytochemical techniques in bacteria, plant and animal. The traditional method used for histochemical demonstration of ß-glucuronidase is quite tedious and substrate utilized in a given concentration is not affordable to researchers of the develop...

We have investigated the hypothesis that uridine 5'-diphosphate (UDP)-glucuronyltransferases (UGTs) and beta-glucuronidase are jointly involved in a mechanism for the storage and mobilization of iodothyronine metabolites in liver, kidney, heart and brain. Specifically, we predicted UGT activities to decrease and increase respectively, and beta-glucuronidase activity to increase and decrease res...

A relationship between estrogen and the @-gIu curonidase activity of the uterus was first suggest ed by Fishman (2, 5). He reported that a decreased glucuronidase activity of the uterus in the mouse followed ovariectomy and that this activity was markedly increased by subsequent treatment of the animals with estrogens. A similar estrogen-@9glucuronidase relationship for other sexual tissues has...
