STUDY OBJECTIVE Aeromedical crews offer an advanced level of practice and rapid transport to definitive care; however, their efficacy remains unproven. Previous studies have used relatively small sample sizes or have been unable to adequately control for the effect of other potentially influential variables. Here we explore the impact of aeromedical response in patients with moderate to severe ...

OBJECTIVES To determine if a specific intracerebral hemorrhage ratio predicts poor outcome; whether predictors of outcome in adults, specifically hemorrhage location, ventricular involvement, or initial Glasgow Coma Scale score, predict outcome in childhood hemorrhagic stroke; and whether the cause of hemorrhagic stroke predicts outcome. DESIGN Retrospective case study. SETTING A single terti...

AIM To assess the importance of the first aid and medical care administered on the battlefield and at a field surgical unit for the outcome of craniocerebral war injuries. METHODS State of consciousness of 38 persons with craniocerebral injuries was assessed by the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), and follow-up of the vital signs and neurological deficit were determined by GCS outcome scale. RESUL...

BACKGROUND This study was done to compare the admission Full Outline of Unresponsiveness (FOUR) score and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) as predictors of outcome in children with impaired consciousness. METHODS In this observational study, children (5-12 years) with impaired consciousness of <7 days were included. Children with traumatic brain injury, on sedatives or neuromuscular blockade; with pr...

To determine how the AVPU (alert, verbal, painful, unresponsiveness) scale corresponds to Glasgow Coma Score (GCS), we compared the two scales. Two months to 12 years old patients were included in the study. The median GCS score (inter quartile range) for A/V/P/U were 14 (12-15), 11 (10-12), 6 (5.5-8) and 3 (3-4), respectively.

Post-concussion syndrome has presented clinicians with controversy and intrigue for at least 130 years. Its symptoms, which often follow uncomplicated mild head injury (post-traumatic amnesia 51 h, Glasgow Coma Scale score 13–15, loss of consciousness 515 min) and moderate head injury (post-traumatic amnesia 1–24 h, Glasgow Coma Scale score 9–12, loss of consciousness 15 min to 6 h), commonly i...
