The photo-isomerization of o-acetylbenzaldehyde (oABA) in acetonitrile was studied by femto- and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Spectroscopic signatures are assigned with the aid of TD-DFT, TD-CAM-DFT and DFT-MRCI computations. The isomerization yields a lactone, 3-methylphthalide (3MP), with a quantum yield of 0.3 (30%). As evidenced by femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy ...

We present a coupled wave semiclassical theory to describe plasmonic enhancement effects in surface-enhanced femtosecond stimulated Raman scattering (SE-FSRS). A key result is that the plasmon enhanced fields which drive the vibrational equation of motion for each normal mode results in dispersive lineshapes in the SE-FSRS spectrum. This result, which reproduces experimental lineshapes, demonst...

Femtosecond stimulated Raman scattering (FSRS) spectroscopy is a powerful pump-probe technique that can track electronic and vibrational dynamics with high spectral and temporal resolution. The investigation of extremely short-lived species, however, implies deciphering complex signals and is ultimately hampered by unwanted nonlinear effects once the time resolution limit is approached and the ...

Pneumonitis and fibrosis are major lung complications of irradiating thoracic malignancies. In the current study, we determined the effect of thoracic irradiation on the lungs of FVB/N mice. Survival data showed a dose-dependent increase in morbidity following thoracic irradiation with single (11-13 Gy) and fractionated doses (24-36 Gy) of (137)Cs γ-rays. Histological examination showed a thick...

background: increasing the complexity in modern radiotherapy techniques have increased the delivery time lowering consequently the treatment efficacy. through simulating the delivery time delay encountered in such techniques, its’ effect on two cancer cell lines and the compensating doses given to prevent such effect was investigated. materials and methods: f10b16 and 4t1 cancer cell lines were...

Background Schwannomas of the vidian canal are an extremely rare type of intracranial tumor that can have variable clinical presentations including headache, facial pain, facial muscle paralysis, decreased lacrimation, or nasal dryness. We present an atypical case of an incidentally identified asymptomatic vidian canal schwannoma. Case Description A 49-year-old woman with a history of multiple ...

BACKGROUND The efficacy of the weak DNA-intercalative hypoxia-selective cytotoxin NLCQ-1 (NSC 709257) was investigated in combination with single or fractionated doses of radiation against human glioma U251 xenografts. Two "advanced stage" experiments were performed in female athymic nude mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Tumor-bearing mice were allocated in groups of 8-10 (treated) or 10-20 (contr...

PURPOSE To estimate the radiotherapeutic dose equivalence of chemoradiotherapy in head and neck cancer. METHODS The biologic equivalent dose (BED) of radiotherapy in nine trials of standard and five trials of modified fractionated radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy was calculated using the linear-quadratic formulation. Data from Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) study 90-03 were ...
