As a contribution to knowledge interoperation between Semantic Web languages, the XSLT-based translator RDF2POSL from OWL/RDF instances with subClassOf taxonomies to RuleML and POSL with order-sorted types is discussed. The RuleML and OO jDREW use case eTourPlan for FOAF/RDF-based travel recommendations is presented.
Sharing of information about publications is very important in a research community. The paper describes a system which demonstrates how semantic blogging can be used for the purpose. It incorporates SWRC ontology into blogging for entering metadata about publications; facilitates commenting on publications and provides a decentralized aggregation mechanism to aggregate publications in the comm...
We argue that in a distributed context, such as the Semantic Web, ontology engineers and data creators often cannot control (or even imagine) the possible uses their data or ontologies might have. Therefore ontologies are unlikely to identify every useful or interesting classification possible in a problem domain, for example these might be of a personalised nature and only appropriate for a ce...
Nowadays open access to scientific data in addition to obtaining information is an essential factor for educational and research processes. A lot of universities publish open data (include scientific and educational data), but not all of them is used. The paper dwells on the scientific portal of a university department. It contains information about the university research activity (projects, p...
This paper contributes to the area of software engineering for Semantic Web development. We describe how to apply MAS-CommonKADS, an agent-oriented extension of CommonKADS, to the development of the ITtalks Web Portal. Domain-specific knowledge is modelled by reusing well-known ontologies such as FOAF and RDFiCal. We also describe how to specify CommonKADS problem-solving methods as web service...
A user-centric architecture of infotainment content adaptation to the context is presented. The architecture uses component technologies in term of business logic and functionalities offered by social web (OpenID, FOAF) and semantic descriptions of MPEG-7 and MPEG-21. Technological alternatives are discussed and adapted to the specificity of vehicle applications in terms of scalability and plat...
The chapter shows how the average Internet user can contribute to the building of Semantic Web. It considers future semantic search engines in comparison to the current tools. In the chapter, several semantic web technologies, such as semantic Wikis or FOAF profiles, are mentioned as well. They can be used even by non-experienced Internet user, which gives the prospects to the existence in a se...
In order to release the Social Semantic Web and solve dataportability issues, there is a need from Web 2.0 providers to open their content and deliver it in a machine-readable way. Modeling it with vocabularies such as FOAF, SIOC, as well as reusing data from the Linked Data initiative like DBpedia or GeoNames can help to achieve this task. The goal of this demo is to showcase an RDF exporter f...
We present the Flink system for the extraction, aggregation and visualization of online social networks. Flink employs semantic technology for reasoning with personal information extracted from a number of electronic information sources including web pages, emails, publication archives and FOAF profiles. The acquired knowledge is used for the purposes of social network analysis and for generati...
