We further study the incidence relations that arise from the various subtowers, known as Baby Monsters, which exist within the R-Monster Tower. This allows us to complete the RV T class spelling rules. We also present a method of calculating the various Baby Monsters that appear within the Monster Tower. MSC Primary: 58A30 Secondary: 58A17, 58K50.
SN 2002kg is a type IIn supernova, detected in October 2002 in the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 2403. We show that the position of SN 2002kg agrees within the errors with the position of the LBV V37. Ground based and HST ACS images however show that V37 is still present after the SN 2002kg event. We compiled a lightcurve of V37 which underlines the variablity of the object, and shows that SN 2002kg...
We investigate the possibility to detect giant planets that are still embedded in young circumstellar disks. Based on models with different stellar, planetary, and disk masses, and different radial positions of the planet we analyze the resulting submillimeter appearance of these systems. We find that the influence of the planet on the spectral energy distribution could not be distinguished fro...
The standard continuous Galerkin (CG) finite element method for second order elliptic problems suffers from its inability to provide conservative flux approximations, a much needed quantity in many applications. We show how to overcome this shortcoming by using a two step postprocessing. The first step is the computation of a numerical flux trace defined on element interfaces and is motivated b...
Recent VLBA observation indicates the existence of an elongated (jet) structure in the compact radio source Sgr A∗. This is hard to explain in the context of advectiondominated accretion flow (ADAF) model for this source. On the other hand, the mass accretion rate favored by ADAF is 10-20 times smaller than that favored by the hydrodynamical simulation based on Bondi capture. If the latter were...
The extraordinary 1998 August 27 giant flare places strong constraints on the physical properties of its source, SGR 1900+14. We make detailed comparisons of the published data with the magnetar model, which identifies the Soft Gamma Repeaters as neutron stars endowed with ∼ 10 15 G magnetic fields. The giant flare evolved through three stages, whose radiative mechanisms we address in turn. The...
We present the results of a new series of non–gray calculations of the atmospheres, spectra, colors, and evolution of extrasolar giant planets (EGPs) and brown dwarfs for effective temperatures below 1300 K. This theory encompasses most of the mass/age parameter space occupied by substellar objects and is the first spectral study down to 100 K. These calculations are in aid of the multitude of ...
