The position paper provides a brief summary of log-linear description logics and their applications. We compile a list of five requirements that we believe a probabilistic description logic should have to be useful in practice. We demonstrate the ways in which log-linear description logics answer to these requirements.

We produce an edge-coloring of the complete 3-uniform hypergraph on n vertices with e √ log logn) colors such that the edges spanned by every set of five vertices receive at least three distinct colors. This answers the first open case of a question of Conlon-Fox-Lee-Sudakov [1] who asked whether such a coloring exists with (log n) colors.

Known facts about the existence and uniqueness of the log-optimal investment portfolio are presented in a simpler and more complete form than in previous publications. Five examples illustrate the problems around its existence and uniqueness and provide an intuitive insight into mathematical properties of the log-optimal portfolio and the associated optimal doubling rate.
