The thermal conductivity of doped graphene flake of finite size is investigated with emphasis on the influence of the mass of the substituting atoms on this property. It is shown that graphene doping by small concentrations of relatively heavy atoms results in a disproportionately large drop in lattice thermal conductivity.

in the present study, the effect of porosity on the cathode microstructure (50:50 wt. % lsm: ysz) of a solid oxide fuel cell (sofc) has been examined. a 3-d finite element method for mixed ionic and electronic conducting cathodes (miec) is presented to study the effects of porosity on cell performance. each microstructure was realized using the monte carlo approach with the isotropic type of gr...

We propose a simple realization of the three-dimensional (3D) Weyl semimetal phase, utilizing a multilayer structure, composed of identical thin films of a magnetically doped 3D topological insulator, separated by ordinary-insulator spacer layers. We show that the phase diagram of this system contains a Weyl semimetal phase of the simplest possible kind, with only two Dirac nodes of opposite ch...

This work presents approximate but closed-form expressions for “effective” complexvalued magnetic permeability and electric conductivity that represent the effects of proximity and skin effect losses in wound coil with hexagonally packed wires. Previous work is extended by providing improved accuracy versus finite element results for effective permeability and by providing an expression for eff...

The sparse-matrix-flat-surface iterative approach has been implemented for perfectly conducting surfaces and modified to enhance convergence stability and speed for very rough surfaces. Monte Carlo simulations of backscattering enhancement using a beam decomposition technique are compared with millimeter-wave laboratory experimental data. Strong but finite conductivity for metals or thin skin d...

The electrical conductivity and structure of water between 2000-70,000 K and 0.1-3.7 g/cm3 is studied by finite temperature density functional theory (DFT). Proton conduction is investigated quantitatively by analyzing diffusion, the pair-correlation function, and Wannier center locations, while the electronic conduction is calculated in the Kubo-Greenwood formalism. The conductivity formulatio...

The optical conductivity, σ(ω), of the two dimensional one-band Hubbard model is calculated at finite temperature using exact diagonalization techniques on finite clusters. The in-plane d.c. resistivity, ρab, is also evaluated. We find that at large U/t and temperature T, ρab is approximately linear with temperature, in reasonable agreement with experiments on high-Tc superconductors. Moreover,...

The heat conduction in finite length single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was simulated by the molecular dynamics method with the Tersoff-Brenner bond order potential. Temperature at each end of a SWNT was controlled by the phantom technique, and the thermal conductivity was calculated from the measured temperature gradient and the energy budgets in phantom molecules. The thermal conductivity...
