In recent years, the utilization of certain medicinal plants as therapeutic agents has drastically increased. Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl is frequently used in traditional medicine. The present investigation was undertaken with the purpose of developing pharmacopoeial standards for this species. Nutritional values such as ash, fiber, protein, fat, and carbohydrate contents were investig...

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND AND AIMS Habitats in mountains are often isolated. Plants growing in these sites face severe dispersal limitations, but also difficulties for recruitment. The focus was laid on the magnitude of genetic differences among populations but also on the size of potentially occurring clones. METHODS RAPD fingerprints were obtained from 23 populations in southern Mongolia. Sampl...

Ferulago W. Koch. (Apiaceae) genus is represented by approximately 50 taxa throughout the world. Ferulago species are known as “Çakşır” or “Çağşır” in Turkey and mostly known for their aphrodisiac effects. However recent reports emphasize the activity of various Ferulago species against cancer, as well. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lyophilized extract of F. mughlea Peş...

BACKGROUND Cerebral ischemia causes some disorders in behavioral patterns, including memory disorders and pain, which is due to the production of free radicals. Ferulago angulata, known in Iran as chavir, contains some bioactive compounds having antioxidant and free radical-scavenging properties. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the effect of two weeks oral administration of hydroalcoh...

Resistance to most antimalarial drugs has encouraged the development of novel drugs. An alternative source for discovering such drugs is natural products. Some Ferulago species are used in folk medicine for their sedative, tonic and anti-parasitic effects. Besides, coumarins isolated from this genus found to have in vitro anti-leishmanicidal effect. The present study is aimed to evaluate the in...

The aim of this study was to verify the possible interactions between ethanol extracts of Amburana cearensis A. C. Smith and Anadenanthera macrocarpa (Benth.) Brenan, combined with six antimicrobial drugs against multiresistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli isolated from humans. The antibacterial activity of the extracts was determined using the minimum inhibitory concen...

For a better understanding of the functionality and pathogenicity of beet soil-borne virus (BSBV), full-length cDNA clones have been constructed for the three genomic RNAs. With the aim of assessing their effectiveness and relative contribution to the virus housekeeping functions, transcripts were inoculated on Chenopodium quinoa and Beta macrocarpa leaves using five genome combinations. Both R...

The new 29-norcucurbitacin, desacetylfevicordin A (1), together with three known 29-norcucurbitacin derivatives (2-4) were isolated from seeds of the Indonesian medicinal plant, Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl. The structures of 1-4 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and chemical transformation. These compounds exhibited toxicity against the brine shrimp (Artemia salina).
