An agar medium combining dulcitol fermentation, malonate utilization, and phenylalanine deamination was evaluated with 229 isolates representing 19 genera. All reactions agreed with those obtained on conventional media.
A rapid technique for inoculating carbohydrate oxidation and fermentation media is described. This method employs 24-well tissue culture trays and a multi-inoculator. Other applications are discussed.
PACKETT, L. V. (Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind.), AND R. W. MCCUNE. Determination of steam-volatile organic acids in fermentation media by gas-liquid chromatography. Appl. Microbiol. 13:22-27. 1965.-Five gas chromatographic liquid phases (25% Carbowax 20M plus 4% H3PO4, 17.5% dioctyl sebacate plus 7.5% sebacic acid, 17.5% dioctyl sebacate plus 7.5% docosanoic acid, 5% Tween 80, and 20% LAC29...
BACKGROUND Spinosad (a mixture of spinosyns A and D) is a unique natural pesticide produced by Saccharopolyspora spinosa. With regard to attempts to improve S. spinosa by classical mutagenesis, we propose that the bottleneck of screening out high-spinosad-production strains is probably caused by the fermentation media. OBJECTIVES The current study aimed to identify a new medium to extensively...
Bacterial cellulose (BC) has a basic cellulose structure that gives high purity, high crystalline ability, high mechanical strength, and high water holding capacity. During the last few decades, BC has gained as an important biomaterial because of these unique physical and chemical characteristics. BC is synthesized by Acetobacter xylinum extracellularly in a suitable substrate media. Researche...
The production of D-lactic acid by Lactobacillus lactis RM2-24 was investigated using modified media to increase the efficiency of the fermentation process. The results indicated that the addition of 5 g/l peptone and 1 g/l (NH4)2HPO4 enhanced D-lactic acid production by 32%, as compared to that obtained from non supplemented media, with a productivity of 3.0 g/l/h. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) ...
Nowadays, vinegar is industrially produced by mesophilic acetic acid bacteria (AAB). However, temperature fluctuation during acetous fermentation is inevitable, and may cause process disturbances. This can be mostly avoided using thermo-tolerant AAB. The main purpose of the present study was to isolate thermo-tolerant AAB. Fermentation performances were then evaluated. Twenty-eight different is...
A carbohydrate fermentation plate medium is described for rapid and reliable confirmation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, N. meningitidis, and other Neisseria species. The medium is based on a modification of NYC (U.S. Patent 3,846,241) medium, originally designed for the isolation of pathogenic Neisseria (3). A total of 715 clinical isolates were tested for their carbohydrate fermentation reactions ...
Since the discovery of the stimulating effect of corn steep liquor on penicillin fermentation, various lactosesteep liquor media have been used in penicillin fermentations. The requirements for a good penicillin fermentation are fulfilled by the steep liquor-lactose media by virtue of its composition (Johnson, 1952). The production of penicillin on a chemically defined medium (Jarvis and Johnso...
The production of kanamycin by three species of Streptonbyces and four fermentation media was studied. Streptomyces canus in medium No. 2 gave the highest yields of kanamycin aftrr 72 hrs. of fermentation. The presence of both molasses and glucose in the fermentation mcdium was an important factor for the production of kanamycin. The best concentration of molasses and glucose were 15.0 and 10.0...
