Background: posttraumatic cubitus varus is a common complication after elbow fractures. There are different types of osteotomy and fixation methods used in correction of cubitus varus. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Patients and method: Ten cases of cubitus varus in young adult treated with lateral closing wedge osteotomy and fixation with posterior Y plate. Preoperative X-ray was t...

BACKGROUND Correction of a distal femoral deformity may prevent or delay the onset of osteoarthritis or mitigate its effects. Accurate correction of deformity without production of a secondary deformity depends on precise localization and quantification of the deformity. We report a technique to correct distal femoral deformities in the coronal plane. METHODS Fourteen femora in thirteen skele...

BACKGROUND Osteotomies are required to mobilize the bony pyramid for infracture, outfracture, or realignment. Using traditional techniques and instruments, mobilization of the bony pyramid often results in serious edema and ecchymosis. OBJECTIVE The authors evaluate how the use of micro-osteotomes in lateral osteotomy influence postoperative healing. METHODS A series of 36 rhinoplasties wer...

The authors present a unique use of the Z osteotomy in the fifth metatarsal for correction of Tailor bunion. The rotational capabilities of the Z osteotomy are exploited to provide correction of fifth metatarsal lateral bowing and to decrease intermetatarsal angles. The osteotomy is inherently stable, and the design facilitates internal fixation.

Monobloc Le Fort III distraction osteogenesis allows superior skeletal advancement in treating severe syndromic craniosynostosis. We report a rare orbital complication in a 3-year-old boy with Crouzon syndrome who developed right-eye exodeviation with limited abduction during the intradistraction period following this surgery. Images from a computed tomography scan confirmed direct impingement ...

The objectives of this study are to assess the velopharyngeal dimensions using cephalometric variables of the nasopharynx and oropharynx as well as to compare the Le Fort I osteotomy technique to Zisser's anterior maxillary osteotomy technique based on patients' outcomes within early and late postoperative follow-ups. 15 patients with severe maxillary deficiency treated with Le Fort I osteotomy...

BACKGROUND Distal osteotomies of the first metatarsal are commonly used to correct hallux valgus deformities. Of the distal osteotomies, the Austin osteotomy is popular among foot surgeons on an international level. The precision of the osteotomy is important to achieve a congruous osteotomy. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of experience and technique on creati...

BACKGROUND Late-onset tibia vara (Blount disease) can be difficult to treat because of frequent morbid obesity and associated deformities, including distal femoral varus, proximal tibial procurvatum, and distal tibial valgus, that contribute to lower extremity malalignment. We present a comprehensive approach that addresses all components of the deformity and allows restoration of the anatomic ...

BACKGROUND High tibial osteotomy is a common procedure to treat symptomatic osteoarthritis of the medial compartment of the knee with varus alignment. This is achieved by overcorrecting the varus alignment to 2-6° of valgus. Various high tibial osteotomy techniques are currently used to this end. Common procedures are medial opening wedge and lateral closing wedge tibial osteotomies. The latera...

Femoral head coverage achieved with an acetabular osteotomy for hip dysplasia is achieved by acetabular rotation that can be restricted by osteotomy orientation and soft tissue attachments to the acetabular fragment. Procedures that allow excess rotation or motion in an undesirable direction (especially external rotation) may have undesirable consequences. Rotational aspects of these procedures...
