Quantitation of urinary protein excretion is important for diagnostic and prognostic purposes and to achieve the best treatment. The method most commonly used to measure urinary protein in 24 hour urine samples, are time consuming and often inaccurate. This study performed on 101 persons. Urine samples were collected three times aday. The protein/creatinine ratio(mg:mg) was measured and c...
1. Amino acids have been used to test renal reserve filtration capacity. Previous studies suggest that amino acids increase glomerular filtration rate (GFR) by reducing distal tubular flow and tubuloglomerular feedback activity. 2. Glomerular function and the renal tubular handling of sodium during infusion of amino acids was studied in 12 normal volunteers. 3. Clearance of sodium (CNa) was unc...
BACKGROUND There is no information about HRQoL, depression and associated factors in adult with nephrotic syndrome-associated glomerulopathy. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Patients with primary glomerulopathy where compared with age and sex-matched hemodialysis patients and healthy subjects. Laboratory data, medical history, comorbid conditions were collected to evaluate factors associated w...
Serial determinations of plasma renin activity, sodium balance, urinary potassium excretion rate, and plasma sodium and potassium concentration were done in five dogs during dietary-induced potassium depletion and repletion. Duration of depletion for the different animals ranged from 5 to 7 wk. Plasma renin activity increased in all animals during depletion, with rises being demonstrated as ear...
OBJECTIVE To determine to what extent plasma C-reactive protein (CRP) values influence 5-year all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetic individuals, independently of albumin excretion rate (AER) and other cardiovascular risk factors, and its incremental usefulness for predicting individual risk of mortality. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Measurements of CRP were performed in 2,3...
We evaluated "borderline" increases in overnight albumin excretion rates (AERs)----i.e., those between the upper 95th percentile of normal (7.6 micrograms/min) and the lowest value currently considered predictive of nephropathy (30 micrograms/min)----to determine their importance and to see whether glucose control influenced subsequent changes in the "borderline" AER values. Between 1985 and 19...
This fluorometric procedure for determining selenium in human serum or urine is sensitive (requiring only 0.4 mL of sample), accurate, simple, and can be performed on several samples concurrently. Using this technique, we found a mean selenium concentration in the serum of normal Canadian men of 142.9 (SD 16.1) micrograms/L. The mean urinary excretion rate was 124.5 (SD 76.0) micrograms/day.
The sebum excretion rate from forehead skin was measured in 44 patients with classic seborrhoeic dermatitis and 200 control subjects. The mean excretion rate was normal in the 29 men with seborrhoeic dermatitis and significantly reduced in the 15 women with the disease. This study showed that seborrhoeic dermatitis is not usually associated with seborrhoea, and therefore "dermatitis of the seba...
The aim of the present work was to obtain information on the total urinary fluoride concentration and excretion of Venezuelan children at the age of 3 to 5 years, as part of a program to monitor fluoride ingestion. A 24 hour urine sample was collected from each of 63 children, between 3 and 5 years of age and analyzed for (i) total urinary volume (ml), (ii) urinary flow rate (ml/h), (iii) fluor...
