Electroactive polymer-peptide conjugates have been synthesized by combining poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), a polythiophene derivative with outstanding properties, and an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-based peptide in which Gly has been replaced by an exotic amino acid bearing a 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene ring in the side chain. The incorporation of the peptide at the ends of preformed PEDOT chains has b...

We report here the synthesis of a novel electroactive polyolefin and demonstrate through a combination of SEC-MALS and DLS how this type of functional polymer can be folded in a controlled fashion from an expanded coil to a tightly wound globule using sequentially activated noncovalent and covalent intra-chain interactions.

Oxidation of [Ru(NH(2)Q)(3)](2+) (NH(2)Q = 8-aminoquinoline) results in intermolecular coupling of 8-aminoquinoline ligands to yield an electroactive polymer. Oxidative polymerization is not observed for [Ru(bpy)(2)(NH(2)Q)](2+) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine), where only one 8-aminoquinoline ligand is present.

Several examples of sensors and actuators inherent in biological species are reviewed with emphasis on their mechanisms for a given set of stimuli. Examples include, action plants (Venus flytrap, Cucumber tendrils) and bamboo, and algae. Based on theses examples and their mechanisms, we designed artificial actuators, FGM piezo actuators and electroactive polymer actuators.

The electrochemical behavior of the cation exchange polymer Nation containing tetrathiafulvalenium (TTF +) on a platinum sub strate is described. The polymer electrode shows cyclic voltammetric behavior similar to that of solid films of TTF on platinum. In 1.0M KBr the oxidized form of the electroactive molecules in the polymer (TTF § forms nonstoichiometric complexes with Br-. The peak potenti...
