INTRODUCTION The Galeazzi fracture-dislocation was originally described by Sir Astley Cooper in 1822 but was named after Italian surgeon Ricardo Galeazzi in 1934. It is an injury classified as a radial shaft fracture with associated dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint and disruption of the forearm axis joint. The associated distal radioulnar joint injury may be purely ligamentous in natu...

T-condylar fractures of the humerus are a rare fracture pattern in children. The usual recommendation is to treat them with open reduction and internal fixation, in accordance to the usual practice in adult fracture patterns. This involves extensive surgical approach to the elbow to allow anatomic reduction and placement of hardware for rigid fixation. The authors present a technique of closed ...

BACKGROUND Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is the most common elbow injury that requires reduction and immobilization in the proper position to union. There are a few reports regarding the position of the forearm immobilization on elbow cosmetic outcome. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to compare two modes of the forearm, supination and pronation in elbow deformity incidence after closed re...

INTRODUCTION In view of the comparative frequency of posterior dislocations of the elbow, it is rather remarkable that anterior dislocations of that joint should be among the rarest of injuries. Authors report a case of acute anterior dislocation with old fracture of medial epicondyle. CASE REPORT 22 years old male presented with acute pain and tenderness with deformity of right elbow joint a...

Elbow fractures are not uncommon in children, and some are associated with neurovascular injuries. Having a nerve injury in an elbow fracture without dislocation is rare and was not described in the literature. Here, we have reported probably the first case of an ulnar nerve injury in an elbow fracture without dislocation. A 9-year-old female presented to the emergency department after falling ...

BACKGROUND Elbow fractures are one of the most common traumatic fractures in the pediatric population. Since severe complications may occur, appropriate diagnosis and treatment are imperative when dealing with this type of fracture. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the epidemiology of elbow fracture in children admitted in Alzahra hospital, Isfahan, IR Iran over a one year per...

Heterotopic ossification is a common complication of Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) type C distal humerus fractures and ulnohumeral fracture dislocations. The purpose of this study was to precisely define the incidence of heterotopic ossification following major elbow trauma and to identify risk factors for the development of clinically significant heterotopic ossification and for surgica...

Traumatic elbow dislocations in children are rare but most of them are complex dislocations, and in such dislocations, medial humerus epicondyle fractureis the most common associated injury. Fracture incarceration in the elbow joint occurs in 5-18% of medial humerus epicondyle fractures but ulnar neuropraxia is very rare. Open reduction internal fixation is indicated in medial humerus epicondyl...

Avulsion fracture of the brachioradialis origin at its proximal attachment on the lateral supracondylar ridge of the distal humerus is exceedingly rare, and only two cases have been reported in the literature so far. In this article, we present a 38 years old patient who sustained a closed avulsion fracture of the lateral supracondylar ridge of left humerus at the proximal attachment of brachio...

A linked total elbow prosthesis was used in an elderly patient to salvage elbow function following failed attempts at osteosynthesis for a comminuted fracture of the proximal ulna associated with a radial head dislocation. A good functional result was obtained at 46 months follow-up, despite questionable healing of the ulnar fracture.
