Sand dwelling species of Coryphopterus live in shared habitats and were reported to have a similar ecology. Species lineages within the western Atlantic Coryphopterus have recently been reconciled; fish which according to the common keys had formerly been identified as Coryphopterus glaucofraenum could in fact be C. glaucofraenum, C. tortugae or C. venezuelae and can genetically be clearly sepa...

This paper describes the implementation of the Eidolon Monte Carlo program designed to simulate fully three-dimensional (3-D) cylindrical positron tomographs on a MIMD parallel architecture. The original code was written in Objective-C and developed under the NeXTSTEP development environment. Di€erent steps involved in porting the software on a parallel architecture based on PowerPC 604 process...

We tested 12 bat species in Ghana for coronavirus (CoV) RNA. The virus prevalence in insectivorous bats (n = 123) was 9.76%. CoV was not detected in 212 fecal samples from Eidolon helvum fruit bats. Leaf-nosed bats pertaining to Hipposideros ruber by morphology had group 1 and group 2 CoVs. Virus concentrations were < or =45,000 copies/100 mg of bat feces. The diversified group 1 CoV shared a c...

Bats are known reservoirs of viral zoonoses. We report genetic characterization of a bat rotavirus (Bat/KE4852/07) detected in the feces of a straw-colored fruit bat (Eidolon helvum). Six bat rotavirus genes (viral protein [VP] 2, VP6, VP7, nonstructural protein [NSP] 2, NSP3, and NSP5) shared ancestry with other mammalian rotaviruses but were distantly related. The VP4 gene was nearly identica...
