Radiofrequency Ablation of AV node with permanent pacemaker has been used to achieve rate control in persistent symptomatic atrial fibrillation. Although RF Ablation is safe, complications may occur in up to 3% of the procedures. A rare complication of 2nd degree skin burn at indifferent electrode site has been described here. This report highlights the rare but possible complication in patient...

The association between prolonged donor warm ischemia time and poor early graft function has been challenged, but with little evidence. We intend to remove ambiguities and present evidence from the current literature. All donor surgeons must strive to limit warm ischemia to reduce poor early graft function and improve long-term outcomes.

Forty-six parent-referred problem 3-year-olds and 22 comparison children were assessed with parent report and observational measures; 54 were followed up at age 4, and 53 were followed again at age 6. Lower social class and greater family stress were associated with higher symptom ratings at initial referral and age 6 follow-up. Negative and directive maternal behavior and negative and noncompl...

OBJECTIVE It is aimed to characterize the true relationship of the cold ischemia time (CIT) with graft survival and with the principal post-transplantation events. MATERIAL AND METHODS We analyzed 378 kidney transplants, studying the relationship of the CIT with graft survival using a univariate analysis according to the COX model and seeking the optimum cutoff according to the Kaplan-Meier m...

The reaction-diffusion model presented by Alan Turing has recently been supported by experimental data and accepted by most biologists. However, scientists have recognized shortcomings when the model is used as the working hypothesis in biological experiments, particularly in studies in which the underlying molecular network is not fully understood. To address some such problems, this report pr...

In this study we compared the effects of duration of cold ischemia (longer and shorter ischemia) on the yield, viability and preservation of the physiological function and insulin secretion of adult human pancreatic islets in short-term (seven days) culture. Based on the tested parameters, we established that there are no major differences between these two test groups and that the storage and ...

Some marine bacterial species form mucosal layers, called veils, on sulfidic marine sediment. The bacteria attached to this veil actively swim and exert force on the surrounding fluid. The bacteria can break free of the veil and swim, chemotacting back to the veil. Over time the veil forms holes arranged in a hexagonal pattern. Motivated by this system, we present a simplified model to describe...

We describe a novel mechanism that mediates the rapid and selective pattern formation of neuronal network activity in response to changing correlations of sub-threshold level input. The mechanism is based on the classical resonance and experimentally observed phenomena that the resonance frequency of a neuron shifts as a function of membrane depolarization. As the neurons receive varying sub-th...

The Mathieu partial differential equation (PDE) is analyzed as a prototypical model for pattern formation due to parametric resonance. After averaging and scaling, it is shown to be a perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). Adiabatic perturbation theory for solitons is applied to determine which solitons of the NLS survive the perturbation due to damping and parametric forcing. Numerica...
