O a clear night, anyone with a good telescope can see that the sky is strewn with thousands of satellites— some are manmade satellites, launched into orbit for communications and defense, and some are natural ones, such as our beloved Moon. However, there is another type of satellite that is much closer to home: the human genome is also littered with “satellites.” Genetic satellites are entirel...

Embryo DNA fingerprinting represents an important tool for tracking embryo-specific outcomes after multiple embryo transfer during IVF. The situation in which two embryos are transferred and only one implants represents a unique opportunity for the most well-controlled validation of markers capable of identifying competent and incompetent embryos. Specifically, this design eliminates all patien...

DNA fingerprinting is a powerful technology that has revolutionized forensic science. No two individuals can have an identical DNA pattern except identical twins. Such DNA-based technologies have enormous social implications and can help in the fight against crime. This technology has experienced many changes over time with many advancements occurring. DNA testing is a matter of serious concern...

Total DNA of Streptococcus uberis from cows with mastitis was analyzed by DNA amplification fingerprinting (DAF) and compared with restriction endonuclease fingerprinting (REF). DAF grouped 22 strains into 15 distinct patterns, while REF grouped them into 12 patterns. These results suggest that DAF is a useful technique for subtyping strains of S. uberis.

The recent loss of confidence in textual and verbal methods for validating the identity claims of individual subjects has resulted in growing interest in the use of biometric technologies to establish corporeal uniqueness. Once established, this foundational certainty allows changing biographies and shifting category memberships to be anchored to unchanging bodily surfaces, forms or features. O...

Quality assessment exercises were conducted to evaluate the reproducibility of IS6110 DNA fingerprinting performed by eight laboratories in the National Tuberculosis Genotyping and Surveillance Network. Three panels, each with 8 to 16 isolates, were typed at all laboratories, resulting in 280 images. When the pattern obtained by the majority for each isolate was used as the standard, exact matc...

AIMS To develop a genome based DNA fingerprinting system for Aspergillus fumigatus mould. METHODS DNA was extracted from 21 isolates obtained from eight patients with an aspergilloma. This was with a freeze-dried mycelial extract fragmented in liquid nitrogen. DNA was subsequently purified by phenol-chloroform extraction followed by ultracentrifugation on a caesium chloride gradient. The DNA ...

Oncometabolite Fingerprinting In article number 2101591, Dean Amir, Gili Bisker, and co-workers use DNA-functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for the recognition quantification of oncometabolite D-2-hydroxyglutarate (D2HG). The DNA-SWCNT sensors can distinguish D2HG from closely-related metabolites, including enantiomer L-2-hydroxyglutarate, owing to measurable modulations near...

Objective(s):The utilization of molecular techniques in the epidemiology of tuberculosis have provided an opportunity for using effective markers to trace the transmission of the disease .The purpose of this study was to compare the genetic patterns of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by three methods of RFLP technique. Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional and prospective study, 95 strains o...
