Formation of hydraulic jump is necessary for dissipation of the excess kinetic energy downstream of spillways and gates. Hydraulic jump stilling basins of sudden expansion are one of the energy dissipater structures which are used where the available tail water depth is less than the required sequent depths. In the present study to further reduce the hydraulic jump sequent depths ratio, a rough...

This study offers a novel empirical equation for those involved in ski-jump type energy dissipator, stilling basin, and plunge pool designs to determine the dissipation level due air resistance. The verified by conducting experimental, empirical, numerical regression analyses at prototype scale. Energy resistance can then be easily calculated discharges reaching up 10000 m3/s using equation.

abstract many studies have been conducted on the characteristics of hydraulic jump over gradually expanding cross sections, but comparatively few have been carried out on basins with convergent wall. in the present research, the hydraulic jump characteristic of the stilling basin with convergent wall has been investigated. the main objective of this research is evaluation of conjugate depths ra...

After a major flood with a peak discharge of 177 m3/s in the city of Martigny (Valais, Switzerland) by the alpine river Drance in October 2000, the local authorities are strengthening efforts for the protection of the urban area. The Drance has an annual average discharge of 10 m3/s and the most important floods occur in the late summer. Two lateral torrents potentially supply the Drance with d...
