The metric sketching problem is defined as follows. Given a metric on n points, and > 0, we wish to produce a small size data structure (sketch) that, given any pair of point indices, recovers the distance between the points up to a 1 + distortion. In this paper we consider metrics induced by `2 and `1 norms whose spread (the ratio of the diameter to the closest pair distance) is bounded by Φ >...

Spatial-query-by-sketch is an intuitive tool to explore human spatial knowledge about geographic environments and support communication with scene database queries. However, traditional sketch-based search methods perform inadequately due their inability find hidden multiscale map features from mental sketches. In this research, we propose a deep convolutional neural network, namely the Deep Sp...

Sketch recognition remains a significant challenge due to the limited training data and substantial intra-class variance of freehand sketches for same object. Conventional methods this task often rely on availability temporal order sketch strokes, additional cues acquired from different modalities supervised augmentation datasets with real images, which also limit applicability feasibility thes...

Despite advances in computer technology, terminologists still tend to rely on manual work to extract all the semantic information that they need for the description of specialized concepts. In this paper we propose the creation of new word sketches in Sketch Engine for the extraction of semantic relations. Following a pattern-based approach, new sketch grammars are developed in order to extract...

Sketch recognition systems usually recognize strokes either as stylistic gestures or geometric shapes. Both techniques have their advantages. This paper presents a method for integrating gesture-based and geometric recognition techniques, significantly outperforming either technique on its own.

We announce a well-posedness result for the Laplace equation in weighted Sobolev spaces on polyhedral domains in Rn with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The weight is the distance to the set of singular boundary points. We give a detailed sketch of the proof in three dimensions.

In this paper we present a treatment for anaphoric pronouns and reflexives in a Type Logical Grammar. To this end, we introduce structural modalities into the left pronominal rule of the categorial calculus with limited contraction LLC [8]. Following a proposal due to Hepple [6], we also sketch an analysis for the long-distance anaphora seg from Icelandic.

A deformable shape model called Active Shape Structural Model (ASSM) is used within a biometric framework to define a biometric sketch recognition algorithm. Experimental results show that mainly structural relations rather than statistical features can be used to recognize sketches of different users with high accuracy.

Researchers have made significant strides in developing recognition techniques for surface sketches, with realized and potential applications to motivate extending these techniques towards analogous surfaceless sketches. Yet surface sketch recognition techniques remain largely untested in surfaceless environments and are still highly constrained for related surfaceless gesture recognition techn...
