Royal jelly (RJ) is known to possess several physiological and pharmacological properties. A dipeptide YY derived from RJ proteins is known to inhibit angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity. Our previous study showed that the dipeptide YY inhibited the human renin activity at physiological pH. In this study, we investigated the pH dependency of the inhibitory effect of the dipeptide YY to...

Dal5p has been shown previously to act as an allantoate/ureidosuccinate permease and to play a role in the utilization of certain dipeptides as a nitrogen source in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Here, we provide direct evidence that dipeptides are transported by Dal5p, although the affinity of Dal5p for allantoate and ureidosuccinate is higher than that for dipeptides. Allantoate, ureidosuccinate, ...

Abstract As low‐molecular‐weight hydrogelators, dipeptide hydrogel materials are suited for embedding multiple organic molecules and inorganic nanoparticles. Herein, a simple but precisely controllable method is presented that enables the fabrication of dipeptide‐based hydrogels by supramolecular assembly inside microfluidic channels. Water‐soluble quantum dots (QDs) as well premixed porphyrins...

Dipeptide monoester prodrugs of floxuridine were synthesized, and their chemical stability in buffers, resistance to glycosidic bond metabolism, affinity for PEPT1, enzymatic activation and permeability in cancer cells were determined and compared to those of mono amino acid monoester floxuridine prodrugs. Prodrugs containing glycyl moieties were the least stable in pH 7.4 buffer ( t 1/2 < 100 ...

We describe herein the refined high resolution x-ray structures of two components of the bacterial cell wall, muramic acid and muramyl dipeptide complexed to isolectin I from Lathyrus ochrus seeds. In both complexes, only the ring hydroxyl oxygen atoms of the bound sugar establish direct hydrogen bonds with isolectin I, as in the case of all the previously determined monosaccharide-lectin compl...

A dipeptide hydrolase from the brush border of guinea-pig intestinal mucosa was purified. The enzyme resembles another dipeptide hydrolase isolated from the cytosol fraction of intestinal mucosa. Studies on the binding of cytosol peptide hydrolase to brush-border membranes indicate that the enzyme found in the brush border may be a cytoplasmic contaminant.

Transport of labeled glycyl-L-proline has been shown to occur with highly purified brush border membrane vesicles from the epithelial cells of rabbit small intestine and renal cortex. With 1-min incubation, transport occurs mainly as the intact dipeptide since less than 10% of the dipeptide in the medium is hydrolyzed within the period. The properties of the dipeptide transport system are simil...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the clinical efficacy of alanine-glutamine dipeptide-supplemented total parenteral nutrition defined by the occurrence of nosocomial infections. Secondary parameters included Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score, hyperglycemia and insulin needs, intensive care unit and hospital length of stay, and 6-month mortality. DESIGN Multicenter, prospe...
