The removal of acetylene from ethylene/acetylene mixtures containing 1% acetylene is a technologically very important, but highly challenging task. Current removal approaches include the partial hydrogenation over a noble metal catalyst and the solvent extraction of cracked olefins, both of which are cost and energy consumptive. Here we report a microporous metal-organic framework in which the ...

A novel bis(phosphinimine)pyrrole based ligand (HL) and its synthesis are reported. Rare earth dialkyl complexes of the ligand, LLn(CH(2)SiMe(3))(2) (Ln = Er, Lu, Sc), have been prepared and found to exhibit high thermal stability in solution. The protio-ligand and dialkyl lanthanide complexes (Ln = Er, Lu) have been characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

A homologous series of cationic gas-phase clusters of dicarboxylic acids (oxalic acid, malonic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid, and adipic acid) generated via electrospray ionization (ESI) are investigated using collision-induced dissociation (CID). Singly charged cationic clusters with the composition (Na(+))(2n+1)(dicarboxylate(2-))(n), where n = 1-5, are observed as major gas-phase specie...

The Kinetic studies were made of the reactions between triphenylphosphine, dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates in the presence of NH-acid, such as harman. To determine the kinetic parameters of the reactions, they were monitored by UV spectrophotometery. The second order fits were automatically drawn and the values of the second order rate constant (k2) were calculated using standard equations with...

I have measured acetylene diffusion through plant tissues including nodules from several species of legume-vetch, peas, soybeans, and Sesbania rostrata. The observed half-time for reequilibration of internal and external concentration is less than 1 minute for typical nodules. Inward diffusion of acetylene in air is rapid relative to the use of acetylene by nitrogenase so that diffusion of acet...

At a concentration of 20% of the atmosphere of the culture flasks, acetylene inhibited growth and carbon dioxide production by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans and Desulfovibrio gigas. The bacteria did not reduce acetylene to ethylene, and neither acetylene dicarboxylic acid nor ethylene was inhibitory. At 10%, acetylene was partially inhibitory for the desulfovibrios. At 5%, acetylene impeded the r...

An efficient three-component reaction of dialkyl acetylendicarboxylates and 2-Pyrrolidin in the presence of triphenylphosphine produces dialkyl 2-(2-Pyrrolidin-N-yl)-3-(triphenylphosphanylidene)succinate. These phosphoranes undergo mild intramolecular Wittig reaction to produce dialkyl (E)-2-(4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrol-2-yl)fumarate in excellent yields.

The scope of applications of dialkyl dicyanofumarates and maleates as highly functionalized electron-deficient dipolarophiles, dienophiles and Michael acceptors is summarized. The importance for the studies on reaction mechanisms of cycloadditions is demonstrated. Multistep reactions with 1,2-diamines and β-aminoalcohols leading to diverse five- and six-membered heterocycles are discussed. Appl...
