Correlation between molecular structures and slow relaxation of magnetization of three mixed (phthalocyaninato)(porphyrinato) dysprosium(III) double-deckers clearly reveals the effect of the sandwich-type molecular structure, in particular the twist angle, on the quantum tunneling (QT) at zero dc field of these complexes, providing the first direct evidence to the theoretical inference.

The new complex [Co(III)2Dy(III)2(OMe)2(teaH)2(Piv)6] in the {Co(III)2Dy(III)2} family, shows two well resolved thermal activated magnetization relaxation pathways under AC experiments in zero DC field. Fitted crystal field parameters suggest that the origin of these two pathways relies on two different excited mJ sub-levels.

The starting torque of a single-phase permanent magnet brushless dc motor is investigated, for both radial and parallel magnetization. Finite element analysis is used to assess the relative merits of alternative methods of introducing the required airgap asymmetry, viz. tapered airgap, stepped airgap, asymmetric airgap, and slotted teeth. The predicted results are validated experimentally.
