Plant-parasitic cyst nematodes secrete a complex of cell wall-digesting enzymes, which aid in root penetration and migration. The soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycines also produces a cellulose binding protein (Hg CBP) secretory protein. To determine the function of CBP, an orthologous cDNA clone (Hs CBP) was isolated from the sugar beet cyst nematode Heterodera schachtii, which is able to ...

Heterodera glycines, the soybean cyst nematode, is the most economically important plant-parasitic nematode on soybean production in the U.S. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the potential of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) strains for mortality of H. glycines J2 in vitro and for reducing nematode population density on soybean in greenhouse, microplot, and field trials....

The Soybean Genomics and Microarray Database (SGMD) attempts to provide an integrated view of the interaction of soybean with the soybean cyst nematode and contains genomic, EST and microarray data with embedded analytical tools allowing correlation of soybean ESTs with their gene expression profiles. SGMD provides analytical tools to mine the microarray data quickly by integrating many analysi...

TRIFONOVA, Z. and A. ATANASOV, 2011. Control of potato cyst nematode Globodera rostochiensis with some plant extracts and neem products. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 17: 623-627 An experiment was conducted under glass-house conditions to test the effects of five plants products in the form of drenches on the growth of potato and population density of potato cyst nematode Globodera rostochiensis. All t...

The corn cyst nematode Heterodera zeae [1], was first detected on the roots of maize collected from Rajasthan, India [1-3]. The pest has subsequently been reported to be present in Pakistan [35], Thailand [2,6], Egypt [7], Greece [8]. Portugal [9] and Virginia and Maryland in the USA [2,10,11] Heterodera zeae is restricted to warmer tropical and sub-tropical areas. And its distribution can be s...

The taxonomically uncharacterized nematophagous fungus ARF18, which parasitizes cysts, juveniles, and adults of the soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines), was proposed as a nematode biological control agent in 1991. A 46.3-Mb draft genome sequence of this fungus is presented, and a tentative taxonomic identification as a novel species of Brachyphoris is proposed.

Phytoparasitic nematodes secrete an array of effector proteins to modify selected recipient plant cells into elaborate and essential feeding sites. The biological function of the novel 30C02 effector protein of the soybean cyst nematode, Heterodera glycines, was studied using Arabidopsis thaliana as host and the beet cyst nematode, Heterodera schachtii, which contains a homologue of the 30C02 g...

From an agronomic perspective, the interactions of phytoparasitic nematodes with leguminous crops can be devastating (Barker, 1998). On a cellular and molecular level, the complexities of the interactions of these microscopic worms with legumes are comparable to those of well-known symbionts (Mathesius, 2003). Because of their agricultural importance, the soybean cyst nematode Heterodera glycin...

Soybean-cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines) was first reported from Japan in 1915. It has since been reported from Korea (1936), Manchuria (1938), the United States (USA) (1954), and Egypt (1968). It is of major concern to soybean producers only in Japan and the USA. Soybean was a major crop in the Orient by 1915 but it was grown very little elsewhere. Since that time its cultivation has spread...

Cyst nematodes are globally important pathogens in agriculture. Their sedentary lifestyle and long-term association with the roots of host plants render cyst nematodes especially good targets for attack by parasitic fungi. In this context fungi were specifically isolated from nematode eggs of the cereal cyst nematode Heterodera filipjevi. Here, Ijuhya vitellina (Ascomycota, Hypocreales, Bionect...
