of a Master's Thesis in Human Biology at the University of Indianapolis filed April 2002 Dr. Stephen P. Nawrocki, Chair Dr. John H. Langdon, Reader The study of human cranial vault thickness (CVT) has a long history. Many researchers have examined systematic differences within and between groups to explore the effects that certain variables have on the thickness of the vault bones. This variati...

Chondrosarcoma is a rare malignant cartilage forming tumour usually arising from long bones and rarely seen in cranium. In cranium it is seen to commonly arises from skull base with skull vault being a highly unusual site. We report a case of a 30-year female presenting with complaints of headache for 6 months found to have a large chondrosarcoma in right fronto-parietal region which is an extr...

Positional cranial deformities are a group of disorders that result in asymmetrical cranial vault due to the application of prolonged exterior pressure on the skull. These can be classified as deformational plagiocephaly, deformational brachycephaly and deformational scaphocephaly, in order of frequency. Clinical awareness of the condition has increased due to its increased incidence resulting ...

Heterotopic brain outside the cranial vault is uncommon. It occurs most frequently in the nasal region, although rests elsewhere in the aerodigestive tract have been reported. We describe a case of heterotopic brain in the pterygopalatine fossa.

Primary Ewing's sarcoma (EWS) arising from cranial bones is rare and accounts for only 1%-4% of all EWS. We report the case of a 15-year-old girl with EWS of the frontoparietal region of the skull. She underwent excision following which she received combination chemotherapy with vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide alternating with ifosfamide, and VP16 and local radiation of 45 Gy. She is...

Positional plagiocephaly (deformational or occipital plagiocephaly) is the most common head-shape deformity, which is presented to specialist craniofacial units. The aim of management is to reduce pressure on the affected area in the expectation that brain growth will drive normalization of the head shape. Current management includes a variety of protocols based on repositioning advice or helme...

Only 5-10% of osteosarcomas arise from the craniofacial bones. We report the case of a 14-year-old female patient who presented with headache and a mass that had been growing in the left frontoparietal region for six months. We describe the findings on conventional radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of helmet therapy in the correction of deformational plagiocephaly and to assess the early occlusal abnormalities seen in these patients. DESIGN A prospective study with blinded measurements. PATIENTS Twenty-eight patients with deformational plagiocephaly who were treated with molding helmet therapy with at least 5 years of follow-up. INTE...
