The electrodynamical properties of a volume resonator formed by a perodic structure built from the metallic threads inside a rectangular waveguide (”grid” volume resonator) is considered. Peculiarities of passing of electromagnetic waves with different polarizations through such volume resonator are discussed.
We analyze the quantum dynamics of a micromechanical resonator capacitively coupled to a Cooper-pair box. With appropriate quantum state control of the Cooper box, the resonator can be driven into a superposition of spatially separated states.
