In this paper we lay the foundation for a numerical algorithm to simulate high-dimensional coupled FBSDEs under weak coupling or monotonicity conditions. In particular, we prove convergence of a time discretization and a Markovian iteration. The iteration differs from standard Picard iterations for FBSDEs in that the dimension of the underlying Markovian process does not increase with the numbe...

This article develops fast numerical methods for the practical solution of the famous EIT and DC-resistivity problems in the presence of discontinuities and potentially many experiments or data. Based on a Gauss-Newton (GN) approach coupled with preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) iterations, we propose two algorithms. One determines adaptively the number of inner PCG iterations required to...

We present an algorithm for reducing the computational work involved in coupled-cluster (CC) calculations by sparsifying the amplitude correction within a CC amplitude update procedure. We provide a theoretical justification for this approach, which is based on the convergence theory of inexact Newton iterations. We demonstrate by numerical examples that, in the simplest case of the CCD equatio...

The ability to measure extremely low thrust levels with unusual precision is becoming more critical as attempts are made to characterize the performance of emerging micropropulsion systems. Many new attitude control concepts for nanospacecraft involve the production of thrust below 1 μN. A simple, but uniquely successful thrust stand has been developed and used to measure thrust levels as low a...

A fundamental periodicity problem of chaotic trajectories in computer realization with finite computation precision is investigated systematically by taking single and coupled Logistic maps as examples. Low-dimensional chaotic trajectories have rather short periods even with double precision computation, while the period increases rapidly when the number of coupled maps increases. Empirical exp...

Welding machine is a that facilitates human work in joining metals. There are two types usually used by humans, namely carbide welding machines and electric machines. Which both have their respective advantages as metal connector. This article lifted from the problem occurs frame or on table which experiences severe enough bending of top (head support) can damage unknown load (force) received s...

Photonic-crystal-based integrated optical systems have been used for a broad range of sensing applications with great success. This has been motivated by several advantages such as high sensitivity, miniaturization, remote sensing, selectivity and stability. Many photonic crystal sensors have been proposed with various fabrication designs that result in improved optical properties. In parallel,...

There is a long tradition in both philosophy and psychology to separate process accounts from dependency accounts of causation. In this paper, we motivate a unifying account that explains people’s causal attributions in terms of counterfactuals defined over probabilistic generative models. In our experiments, participants see two billiard balls colliding and indicate to what extent ball A cause...

A new method for calculating the stress field in bounded ice shelves is used to compare strain rate and deviatoric stress on the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica. The analysis shows that strain rate (per second) increases as the third power of deviatoric stress (in newtons per square meter), with a constant of proportionality equal to 2.3 x 10(-25).
