We examine pressure-driven nonequilibrium transport of linear, circular, and star polymers through a nanochannel containing a rectangular pit with full hydrodynamic interactions and thermal fluctuations. We demonstrate that with sufficiently small pressure differences, there is contour length-dependent entropic trapping of the polymer in the pit when the pit and the polymer sizes are compatible...

Transhiatal oesophagectomy is an established technique for resection of tumours of the lower oesophagus and oesophagogastric junction. The authors describe a previously unreported serious complication associated with placement of a corrugated neck drain during transhiatal oesophagectomy. A 63 year old man was admitted for transhiatal oesophagectomy for resection of a lower third oesophageal tum...

Corrugated waveguide transmission lines are in use to transmit high power mm-wave radiation from gyrotrons to the plasma for electron cyclotron plasma heating in tokamaks such as ITER. The coupling efficiency of the gyrotron output radiation formed as a quasi-Gaussian beam to the waveguide mode is a critical issue. A hyperbolic corrugated horn serves as a converter of the TEM00 Gaussian mode to...

In this letter, we propose the use of the newly developed corrugated quantum well infrared photodetectors ~C-QWIPs! for polarization detection. The corrugated structure, which serves as an optical coupler as well as the polarization-sensitive component, is in this case directly created into the active region of the QWIP, therefore dispensed with the need of an external polarizer. Moreover, four...

In the fresh produce industry, corrugated containers must be made to provide adequate protection throughout the product life cycle. In response to increasing materials costs in the corrugated industry, companies are focusing upon developing more efficient packaging designs. The scope of this project focuses on presenting alternative corrugated packaging designs for the fresh produce industry. I...

We report on a new synthesis method of reflection filters with multilayer and waveguide structures. The filter is characterized by bandwidth as small as ≤ 1 nm for effective use in wavelength-division-multiplexed optical communications. Both the transfer-matrix method and the Fourier transformation are employed to determine the filter reflection from a spatially varying refractive index. In con...

The steel frame reinforced with steel shear wall is a lateral load resisting system and has higher strength and shear performance than the concrete shear wall system. Especially, using corrugated steel plates in these shear wall systems improves out-of-plane stiffness and flexibility in the deformation along the corrugation. In this paper, a cyclic loading test of this steel frame reinforced wi...

The system of steel shear wall is an initiative resistance system against the lateral load such as an earthquake and the wind that has been researched in the last three decades. Currently, this system is noticed more than other systems because of adequate stiffness, ductility, and more energy absorption. The system of steel shear wall with corrugated sheets has been offered as an innovative sys...

We demonstrate the construction of corrugated waveguides using stacked rings to propagate terahertz frequencies. The waveguide allows propagation of the same fundamental mode as an optical-fiber, namely, the HE(11) mode. This simple concept opens the way for corrugated wave-guides up to several terahertz, maintaining beam characteristics as for terahertz applications.

The strength of a corrugated container is usually determined and reported as crush strength under progressively increasing top-to-bottom compressive load. The test is performed in seconds in a controlled constant temperature and relative humidity environment. However, a dynamic strength test under controlled conditions cannot account for the reduction in load-carrying ability inherent in the ex...
