BACKGROUND Treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO-1 infections through immunological means has been proved to be efficient and protective. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to produce a conjugate vaccine composed of detoxified lipopolysaccharide (D-LPS) P. aeruginosa and diphtheria toxoid (DT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Firstly, LPS was purified and characterized from P. aeruginosa PAO1...

OBJECTIVE New vaccines that offer protection against otitis media caused by nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae and by Moraxella catarrhalis are under development. However, the potential health benefits and economic effects of such candidate vaccines have not been systematically assessed. METHODS We created a computerized model to compare the projected benefits and costs of (1) the currently a...

Three years after a 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine was replaced by a 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in the Netherlands, we observed a decrease in incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes 1, 5, and 7F. Our data do not support or exclude cross-protection against serotype 19A.

Infants were immunized with 1 of the 3 experimental pneumococcal conjugate vaccines that contain 6B and 19F but not 6A or 19A serotypes. Their sera were studied for the capacity to opsonize Streptococcus pneumoniae 6A, 6B, 19A, and 19F serotypes and the level of IgG antibody to the 4 serotypes. Significant increases were observed in the number of infants with detectable opsonophagocytic titers ...

Background: Conjugate typhoid vaccine can prevent increasing cases of typhoid in younger children. Commercially available conjugate vaccine has limited studies to support its use. Aims: To study the safety and immunogenicity of Vi conjugate typhoid vaccine (PedaTyph TM ). Materials and Methods: Four hundred children with age <5 years were randomised to receive either one dose (Group A) or two d...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the projected health benefits, costs, and cost-effectiveness of pneumococcal conjugate vaccination for infants and children aged <5 years in Canada. A health state model incorporating incidence, vaccine efficacy, costs, and transitional probabilities for the health states (well, meningitis, bacteremia, otitis media, pneumonia, and death) was construct...

Therapeutic cancer vaccines based on the abnormal glycans expressed on cancer cells, such as the globo H antigen, have witnessed great progress in recent years. For example, the keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) conjugate of globo H has been on clinical trials as a cancer vaccine. However, such vaccines have intrinsic problems, such as inconsistence in eliciting T cell-mediated immunity in cancer...

Neisseria meningitidis is a leading cause of bacterial meningitis and other serious infections worldwide. The epidemiological profile of N. meningitidis is highly changeable, with great differences in disease incidence and serogroup distribution. Six serogroups (namely serogroups A, B, C, W-135, X, and Y) are responsible for most cases of meningococcal disease worldwide; the epidemiological pro...
