The recently developed worldline quantum field theory (WQFT) formalism for the classical gravitational scattering of massive bodies is extended to massive, charged point particles coupling bi-adjoint scalar theory, Yang-Mills and dilaton-gravity. We establish a double copy relation in these WQFTs observables (deflection, radiation). fixes locality structure from Using this eikonal phase (or fre...

I discuss the possibility of using classical field theory to approximate hot, realtime quantum field theory. I calculate, in a scalar theory, the classical two point and four point function in perturbation theory. The counterterms needed to make the classical correlation functions finite are dictated by the superrenormalizability of the static theory. The classical expressions approximate the q...

We examine the equilibrium properties of hot, dilute, non-relativistic plasmas. The partition function and density correlation functions of a classical plasma with several species are expressed in terms of a functional integral over electrostatic potential distributions. This is a convenient formulation for performing a well-defined perturbative expansion. The leading order, field-theoretic tre...

This is a brief overview of work done by Ian Anderson, Mark Fels, and myself on symmetry reduction of Lagrangians and Euler-Lagrange equations, a subject closely related to Palais’ Principle of Symmetric Criticality. After providing a little history, I describe necessary and sufficient conditions on a group action such that reduction of a group-invariant Lagrangian by the symmetry group yields ...

Trajectories in the space of the unitarily inequivalent representations of the canonical commutation relations are shown to be classical trajectories. Under convenient conditions, they may exhibit properties typical of chaotic behavior in classical nonlinear dynamics. Quantum noise in fluctuating random force in the system–environment coupling and system–environment entanglement is also discussed.
