PURPOSE This study investigates the inflammation in the anterior chamber in eyes with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and evaluates the effect of intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation on the blood-aqueous barrier (BAB). METHODS Thirty-five patients (35 eyes) with acute primary angle closure glaucoma (APACG), 42 patients (42 eyes) with chronic primary angle closure glaucoma (CPACG), and 5...

Secondary angle closure glaucomas are a distinct entity from primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG). Unlike PACG, secon dary angle closure glaucoma’s have an identifiable contributory factor/s for angle closure and obstruction of aqueous flow which is usually unrelieved by iridotomy. The treatment of each type of secondary angle closure glaucoma is varied, so identification of the primary cause...

Trabeculectomy surgery has been shown to lower intraocular pressure and is the most commonly performed glaucoma procedure worldwide. However, giving a patient a 'bleb for life' is not without consequences and the failure of trabeculectomy to control IOP in the long term is well documented. In some instances, such as in patients with exfoliative glaucoma or primary angle closure glaucoma, catara...

Surgical outcomes of phacoemulsification only and phacoemulsification combined with trabeculectomy were compared in patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Clinical records of 41 consecutive patients were retrospectively reviewed, and there was no difference in best-corrected visual acuity and intraocular pressure preoperatively and at the final follow-up in both study groups. Rega...

For the past 12 years peripheral iridectomy has been used as the initial surgical procedure after an acute attack of angle-closure glaucoma. The operation has been performed 2 to 5 days after the pressure has been controlled medically and has been followed routinely by prophylactic peripheral iridectomy in the fellow eye. Peripheral iridectomy for primary acute angle-closure glaucoma controlled...

A 62-year-old woman presented with acute angle closure glaucoma. After a poor response to conventional treatment the presenting signs were re-evaluated and a diagnosis of pseudotumour of the orbit was made. Treatment with oral steroids resolved both the glaucoma and the orbital pseudotumour. The presumed pathogenesis and literature are reviewed.
