In an effortto determine potential diagnostic usefulness of bronchiectasis adjacent to pulmonary coin lesions, 39 cases were evaluated by chest roentgenogram and bronchography. Ten of 17 benign lesions demonstrated localized adjacent bronchiectasis. Twenty-one of 22 malignant coin lesions failed to demonstrate that finding. Localized bronchiectasis adjacent to a “coin lesion” is a useful indica...
Right subclavian artery cannulation: Is chest roentgenogram sufficient to diagnose the complication?
Bronchogenic cysts are not commonly the cause of severe symptoms, and often present only as an abnormality on chest roentgenogram. We report an unusual patient with a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst associated with rapid hemodynamic deterioration secondary to compression of vital structures.
A 73-day-old female infant presented with cough and fever. A chest roentgenogram showed a pneumonic patch, but empirical antibiotic treatment failed. The pathology of an excisional biopsy specimen confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis. We emphasize that tuberculosis should be considered for neonates or infants with unresponsive pneumonia because delayed diagnosis is associated with a fatal outcome.
Varicella pneumonia usually resolves after treatment, and occasionally miliary calcification develops on the roentgenogram of the chest years afterward. A case of varicella pneumonia is presented that followed a previously unreported course. In this case, usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP) developed. The pneumonitis responded well clinically and radiographically to corticosteroid treatment. T...
T his 35-year-old man was hospitalized with cough, purulent sputum, hemoptysis, and high fever of recent onset. Past medical history was unremarkable. Breath sounds were diminished over the right interscapular area and medium crepitations were heard on the same side. The WBC was 14,000/cm2, with 80 percent polymorphonuclear leucocytes. A PA chest roentgenogram ( Fig 1 ) was obtained on admission.
We report the case history of an external thoracic wall lipoma, which was noticed incidentally on a chest roentgenogram because of its calcification. A probable diagnosis was made by computer tomography. Because of the increase in size of the tumour it was removed surgically, but no evidence of malignant degeneration was found.
location of focal infectious roc’2 As opposed to galhum, accumulation in normal bowel does not signfficantly affect imaging ofthe abdomen and pelvis. It can also identify extra-abdominal sites ofinfection as well; in one study, three patients had pneumonitis detected prior to the appearance of an abnormal chest roentgenogram 13 The “In-WBC scanning is performed by obtaining a leukocyte-rich fra...
The postdialytic plasma level of cGMP, a marker for the release of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in humans, is closely related to hypervolemia in chronic hemodialysis patients. In order to test the practicability of routine postdialysis cGMP determination for the detection of fluid overload, ANP and cGMP levels in the total hemodialysis population of 81 patients were measured with blood samp...
