UNLABELLED Occupational and chemical assault injuries were the two most common factors associated with chemical burns. These two types of injuries were identified and analyzed covering a 20-year period. METHODS Patients with second- to third-degree chemical burns admitted to the Linkou Burn Center, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital from May 1986 to May 2005 were included in the analysis. I...
Burn care is a rapidly changing field that is increasingly managed in very specialized units. The aim of the two authors of this book was to produce a concise distillation of current burn care based on the practices of the Philadelphia Burn Unit. The handbook was targeted primarily at trainees who are responsible for the day-to-day care of burn victims, whether they be working in emergency room...
background metallo-beta-lactamase (mbl) producing pseudomonas aeruginosa in the burn patients is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality and remains a serious health concern among the clinicians. objectives the aim of this study was to detect mbl-producing p. aeruginosa in burn patients and determine multidrug-resistant (mdr) strains, and respective resistance patterns. patients and methods ...
We present the case of a 54-year-old patient with a thermal cement burn. This rare case is a localised occupational chemical cement burn on the lower limbs, with no systemic involvement and favourable outcome. The lesion was induced by prolonged contact of the skin with cement and water during hot summer days.
The pattern of injury seen in pediatric hand burns differs from adults because scald burns are most common. Many of these are difficult to assess at initial presentation. In addition, children develop less stiffness in response to immobilization. For these reasons, we have developed a conservative, expectant approach for treating most pediatric hand burns. Meticulous wound care, positioning, sp...
Thermochemcial characteristics of powder fabricated using oxidation treatment of spent PWR fuel and SIMFUEL were evaluated for recycling of spent fuel such as DUPIC process. Especially, the influence of spent fuel burn-ups on the powder fabrication characteristics was experimentally evaluated, ranging from 27,300 to 65,000 MWd/tU. Densities of powder manufactured from an oxidation, OREOX and th...
THE results of the experimental investigation carried out in the laboratory of the Netherlands Ophthalmic Hospital in Utrecht to test my first clinical findings on the favourable action of " Corvasymton "t in a chemical burn of the eye have already been recorded (Fischer, Hodgson, and Wagenaar, 1950). In view of the favourable result 1 decided to use this drug once again when a patient with a c...
INTRODUCTION Chemical burns of the eyes are one of the important causes of visual disability. Chemical burns particularly alkali burn may lead to gross limbal stem cell deficiency. Amniotic membrane transplantation with limbal graft is a good method for ocular surface reconstruction. CASE A 39 years male presented to Biratnagar Eye Hospital after 5 months of chemical injury with redness, pain...
The first aid for burns is to run cold water over the burn for 20 minutes. This is effective for up to three hours after the injury. Assess the affected body surface area using the rule of nines. Consult a burn unit if more than 5% of the total body surface area is burnt in a child or if more than 10% in an adult. Extensive or deep burns and burns to special areas, such as the hands, should be ...
