Fluconazole disk-diffusion susceptibility was evaluated in 230 blood isolates and 344 non-blood clinical isolates of Candida spp. collected in 2002 at National Taiwan University Hospital. Up to 93.5% of blood isolates were susceptible to fluconazole, 3% were susceptible dose-dependent, and 3.5% were resistant. The minimum inhibitory concentrations at which 50% of tested isolates were inhibited ...

Background. Opportunistic fungal infections like candidiasis are common in the oral cavity. In recent years Candida species have shown resistance against a number of synthetic drugs. This study assessed the antifungal activity of Centratherum anthelminticum and Ocimum sanctum seed oils against six common pathogenic Candida strains. Synergistic activity of the major oil components was also studi...

We measured time-kills and postantifungal effects (PAFEs) of caspofungin against Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis, and C. glabrata isolates. One-hour exposure to caspofungin during PAFE experiments accounted for the majority of killing during time-kill experiments. Regrowth of all isolates was inhibited for at least 24 h following drug washout.

Background and Aims: Candida species are opportunistic pathogens which live as benign commensal organisms in the oral cavities. The infants are more susceptible to opportunistic microorganism colonization. This study was design to evaluate the presence and quantity of Candida colonies in infants' oral cavities and its relation with age, gender, and type of diet and mothers' education level.Mate...

OBJECTIVE Fungal urinary tract infections due to Candida have increased significantly in recent years. Our research objective was to study Candida species in urine samples of patients with urinary tract infections (UTIs) associated with obstructive uropathy and to investigate the virulence factors of the isolated Candida. METHODS Patients were divided into two groups: Group I (cases): 50 pati...

BACKGROUND Antifungal susceptibility testing is a subject of interest in the field of medical mycology. The aim of the present study were the distributions and antifungal susceptibility patterns of various Candida species isolated from colonized and infected immunocompromised patients admitted to ten university hospitals in Iran. METHODS In totally, 846 Candida species were isolated from more...
