In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the most important challenges are the bandwidth and energy limitations, network topology changes, and lack of fixed infrastructures. Flooding is a broadcasting method which is used in almost all existing routing protocols and suffers from the broadcast storm problem. It may result in excessive redundancy, contention, collision, and energy consumption. To solv...

Routing in a wireless mesh network is a heterogeneous interoperability problem. First, it is possible that some users may disable the relaying functions of their mobile devices in order to save the computing power and battery charge. This will results in heterogeneous relaying capabilities. Second, due to the absence of standard layer-3 ad-hoc routing protocols, various devices may employ diffe...

Mobile wireless ad hoc networks (MANETs) have become of increasing interest in view of their promise to extend connectivity beyond traditional fixed infrastructure networks. In MANETs, the task of routing is distributed among network nodes which act as both end points and routers in a wireless multi-hop network environment. To discover a route to a specific destination node, existing on-demand ...

Traditionally, most routing protocol designs and their implementations assume that every link is bi-directional. This assumption is no longer true with direct broadcast satellite and other one-way communication link technology. In this research, we study the problems of dynamic asymmetric routing in an experimental approach. We have developed and implemented a method to adapt existing routing p...

In this paper, we address the congestion control multicast routing problem in wireless ad hoc networks through the medium access control (MAC) layer. We first introduce the Broadcast Medium Window (BMW) MAC protocol, which provides reliable delivery to broadcast packets at the MAC layer. We then extend the wireless On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) to facilitate congestion control in...

Status of This Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract The two predominant circuit types used by link state routing protocols are point-to-point and broadcast. It is important to identify the correct circuit type when forming adjacencies, flooding link state database pa...

We investigate the power-efficient broadcast routing problem using directional antennas. Our main interest is in the case when antenna beamwidth becomes very small. We consider asymptotic convergence properties of previously known broadcast routing algorithms and compare them with asymptotically optimal structures. Algorithms and techniques to reduce total transmit power using directional anten...

We introduce a novel cryptographic paradigm of broadcast authentication with “preferred” verifiers (BAP). With BAP, the message source explicitly targets a set of one or more verifiers. For an attacker, forging authentication data of a source, for purposes of fooling preferred verifiers may be substantially more difficult than fooling other (non-preferred) verifiers. We investigate broadcast au...

Broadcast routing has become an important research field for vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) recently. However, the packet delivery rate is generally low in existing VANET broadcast routing protocols. Therefore, the design of an appropriate broadcast protocol based on the features of VANET has become a crucial part of the development of VANET. This paper analyzes the disadvantage of existing...

The Broadcast Incremental Power (BIP) algorithm is the most frequently cited method for the minimum energy broadcast routing problem. A recent survey concluded that BIP has O(|V |3) time complexity, and that its approximation ratio is at least 4.33. We strengthen these results to O(|V |2) and 4.598, respectively.
