Twenty-eight enteroviral isolates obtained from various clinical specimens were typed by Lim-Benyesh-Melnick (LBM) pool-based neutralization, PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), and partial sequencing of the VP1 region of the enteroviral genome. Sequencing was found to be a good alternative to LBM typing, while PCR-RFLP was inadequate for identification of enteroviral isolates.

Proper brain function requires the precise localization of proteins and signaling molecules on a nanometer scale. The examination of molecular organization at this scale has been difficult in part because it is beyond the reach of conventional, diffraction-limited light microscopy. The recently developed method of superresolution, localization-based fluorescent microscopy (LBM), such as photoac...

A comprehensive avian influenza control program was established for the New York live bird market (LBM) system. Its purpose was to eliminate avian influenza virus (AIV) from the marketing system. The application of science-based surveillance, improved diagnostic performance, voluntary efforts of the LBM owners, and regulatory enforcement have resulted in the elimination of an H7 low pathogenic ...

BACKGROUND Little is known about the effect of weight change on regional lean body mass (LBM) distribution or on racial differences in resting metabolic rate (RMR). OBJECTIVE The study compared total and regional LBM patterns in white and black women after weight loss and regain and assessed the influence of regional LBM on variances in RMR. DESIGN Eighteen white and 22 black women who did ...

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has evolved to a promising alternative to the well-established methods based on finite elements/volumes for computational fluid dynamics simulations. Ease of implementation, extensibility, and computational efficiency are the major reasons for LBM’s growing field of application and increasing popularity. In this paper we give a brief introduction to the involv...

The fluid flow behaviors during the production of coalbed methane (CBM) are generally restricted by pre-existing natural fractures in coal seams. To better understand effect micro-fracture morphology on capability, nine coals collected from Ordos Basin were subjected to optical microscope observations obtain micro-fractures morphology. And then, box-counting method (BCM) was used quantify compl...

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) emerged from the field of computational fluid dynamics as an alternative to Navier-Stokes based approaches. It has since been proven to be applicable also for the simulation of free surface flows (liquid-gas flow) and particulate flows (liquid-solid flow). In the past both algorithmss for free surface flows and particulate flows have been realized that preserv...

BACKGROUND No single measurement adequately defines protein-energy malnutrition. In the dialysis population, somatic protein mass, a useful marker of protein malnutrition, is estimated using the creatinine index (CI), lean body mass (LBM) or both, but the clinical usefulness of these indices remains uncertain. Moreover, calculating these indices requires formal creatinine kinetics or urine and ...

Inflectional classes are a basic notion in morphology, though occasionally their existence is challenged. In trying to get a new perspective on complex phenomena, like inflectional classes, we may take a ‘canonical’ approach. This means that we extrapolate from what there is to what there might be, in order to define the theoretical space. Within that scheme of theoretical possibilities we can ...
