introduction: quantification of epstein - barr virus (ebv) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (pbmnc) of allogenic bone marrow transplant (bmt) recipients is important because ebv-associated posttransplant lymphoproliferative disease (ptld) can occur after transplantation due to immunosup-pression therapy. methods: to this end we chose real-time pcr using taqman probe. for the standard curve...

INTRODUCTION Systemic Epstein-Barr virus-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative childhood disease is an extremely rare disorder and classically arises following primary acute or chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection. It is characterized by clonal proliferation of Epstein-Barr virus-infected T-cells with an activated cytotoxic phenotype. This disease has a rapid clinical course and is more fr...

We describe a unique patient with mosquito-bite hypersensitivity who had extremely high titres of Epstein-Barr virus antibodies. For many years he developed intractable ulcers on the sites of mosquito-bite. Epstein-Barr virus infection was detected in almost all inflammatory cells in the ulcers and in the peripheral blood lymphocytes by using in situ hybridization to Epstein-Barr virus-encoded ...

We examined the relationship between maternal depressive symptoms in late pregnancy and Epstein-Barr virus reactivation before delivery. In this prospective observational study, prevalence of Epstein-Barr virus reactivation within one week before delivery was compared between 163 pregnant women with depressive symptoms at 33 to 34 weeks of gestation and a computer-generated control group of 163...

Fulminant hepatitis by Epstein-Barr virus is a rare event which is predominantly due to primary infection. We report a rare case of fatal hepatic failure due to Epstein-Barr virus reactivation in a 19-year-old boy who was taking oral steroids. Transaminase peak and the fulminant course of the disease began soon after steroid interruption. Epstein-Barr virus reactivation was diagnosed on the bas...

Epstein-Barr virus association in nonproducer human lymphoblastoid cell lines can be demonstrated by the presence of the virus genome (nucleic acid hybridization studies) or by the detection of the virus-coded complement-fixing antigen (complement fixation and/or anti-complement immunofluorescent test). This paper describes an enzyme immunoassay for the detection of Epstein-Barr virus complemen...
