The absence of left atrial appendage ( LAA ) is an extremely rare disease, which usually diagnosed by chance in imaging examinations before fibrillation surgery. Here, we report a case loss 67-year-old man who planned to undergo radiofrequency catheter ablation fibrillation. We observed deficiency transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and further refined CTA cardiac magnetic resonance MRI conf...

Whereas the left atrial appendage plays a rather minor role under physiological circumstances, it gains an importance in patients with atrial fibrillation. Compelling evidence has revealed that the left atrial appendage is implicated as the source of thrombus in the vast majority of strokes in atrial fibrillation. Oral anticoagulation remains the standard of care for stroke prevention in atrial...

A patient with atrial tachycardia presented with dyspnoea on exertion. Transoesophageal echocardiography revealed idiopathic left atrial appendage stenosis. The mouth of the atrial appendage was narrowed, and there was a high velocity to and fro jet between the left atrial body and the left atrial appendage. The study, therefore, suggested isolated left atrial appendage orifice stenosis.

Right atrial dilation due to left heart disease is a common complication among adults. The present review aimed to describe a case of massively dilated right atrium in a female patient presenting with valvular heart disease and no atrial fibrillation. The results of chest X-ray revealed a large opacity filling the lower right hemithorax, falsely interpreted as a mediastinal mass. During the tra...

A trial fibrillation is the most common sustained arrhythmia worldwide (1), and catheter-based pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is becoming a dominant approach to its management. Stroke and transient ischemic attack are known risks of PVI (2). To improve PVI safety, atrial thrombus needs to be excluded. Traditionally, patients undergo elective computed tomography angiography or magnetic resonance...

OBJECTIVES The prognostic significance of preoperative atrial fibrillation on mitral valve replacement remains unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of the presence of preoperative atrial fibrillation on mortality and cardiovascular outcomes of mitral valve replacement for rheumatic valve disease. METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed on a total of 793 patients wh...

OBJECTIVES This study examined the effect of endocardial and transthoracic direct current (DC) shocks on left atrial and left atrial appendage function in humans with structural heart disease. BACKGROUND DC cardioversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) to sinus rhythm is associated with transient left atrial and left atrial appendage dysfunction and the development of spontaneous echo contrast (S...
