This paper presents a survey of mobility management protocols for Wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode (WATM) networks. Basic architectural assumptions for WATM networks are presented, followed by an overview of location registration, call delivery, and terminal paging techniques. Next, a collection of protocols for handoo connection rerouting is examined. The paper concludes with a discussion o...

This paper describes ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) simulation model developed using COMNET III. ADSL is integrated with IP (Internet Protocol) and ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) in order to provide QoS (Quality of Service). Using this model, a comparison study between networks using IP over ATM over ADSL and IP over ADSL is provided.

Increased bandwidth and faster transmission are among the attributes that make asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) the emerging technology of choice for LAN backbones, WANs, and campus area networks used for collaborative multimedia and datarich applications. This article's review of the basics of ATM technology and implementation can help IS professionals decide when and at what pace to adopt ATM...

The objective of this note is to explore the existence of an effective bandwidth for ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) traffic. We show that such an effective bandwidth exists for a class of stationary Gaussian sources. We also show that the effective bandwidth cannot be defined for general non-stationary sources by providing an elementary counter-example.

The Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks are quickly being adopted as backbones over various parts of the Internet. This paper analyzes the performance of TCP/IP protocols over ATM network's Available Bit Rate (ABR) and Unspeciied Bit Rate (UBR) services. It is shown that ABR pushes congestion to the edges of the ATM network while UBR leaves it inside the ATM portion.

We summarize our current research on the applications of computational intelligence in asynchronous transfer mode networks. Our goal is to improve network performance (call blocking, utilization) through “intelligent” call admission control. We discuss the need for a methodology of applying computational intelligence in this environment.

Abstract In this paper, we report the completion of a prototype hardware ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cell-stream splitter for a multi-media workstation. It describes some of the experiences encountered while designing and testing the splitter’s interface to the workstation’s system bus. A summary of the test procedures is given, including a report on the recent demonstration of the prototy...

This memo defines two MIB modules and corresponding MIB Object Definitions that describe how label-switching-controlled Frame-Relay and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) interfaces can be managed given the interface stacking as defined in the MPLS-LSR-STD-MIB and MPLS-TE-STD-MIB.

The synchronous residual time stamp is widely implemented for the transport of the service clock associated with continuous bit-rate services in asynchronous transfer mode adaptation layer 1. We present a new approach to service clock regeneration, which is simple to implement and can be proven to be correct.
