Anti N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDR) encephalitis has been recognized as the most frequent autoimmune encephalitis in children after acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (ADEM).However due to the variable the variable clinical presentation, the paucity of specific finding on standard laboratory and radiological investigation remains under recognized. First discribed in 2005, most commonly...
N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antibodies (NMDAR-Abs) can contribute to neurological relapse after herpes simplex virus encephalitis (HSE). We describe a child with NMDAR-Ab encephalitis after HSE, which was recognized and treated early. We discuss the case in the context of existing reports, and we propose a modified immunotherapy strategy to minimize risk of viral reactivation.
In 2007, a rare form of autoimmune encephalitis was characterized by Dalmau et al. termed as anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (anti-NMDA) receptor encephalitis. Although it is more common in young females with ovarian teratomas who often present with psychiatric symptoms for the first time, this case reports a female diagnosed with antiNMDA receptor encephalitis in the absence of a neoplasm and diagno...
Anti N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) ReceptorEncephalitis with Frustrated Diagnosis Course: ACase report
Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is a rare disease with uncertain etiology and pathogenesis that affects young women. Its diagnosis can be delayed because of the nonspecific neuropsychiatric symptoms in the foreground. This article describes the details of a recent complicated case of a patient with this condition which is related to an ovarian teratoma. Correct diagnostic...
Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis is a form of encephalitis occurring primarily in women and associated with antibodies against NR1 or NR2 subunits of the NMDA receptor. As a potentially treatable differential for symptoms and signs seen in neurology and psychiatric clinics, clinicians practising across the lifespan should be aware of this form of encephalitis. Common clini...
This article discusses the anesthetic management and implications of 2 pediatric patients with a diagnosis of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor encephalitis. Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis has been described as an immune-meditated syndrome that triggers the production of antibodies to the NMDA receptor: a site of action for many commonly used anesthetic agents. Symptoms of this disease...
